I bought this book a few weeks ago. Glad I did. Little Women was originally published in two volumes, in 1868 and 1889.So this is a big book and its the 150th Anniversary Edition.536 pages. It goes on to tell about the March sisters later in life. It's a really nice story. Glad I got it. I think the little Women book I had growing up was just the first Volume.
Went to the thrift store today got a few things, now I'm off to get things ready for dinner.

I so agree ladies---I have always adored Eleanor Roosevelt and as I read about her---she was probably a lesbian for sure---and he cheated on her. They didn't love each other. You are right---I do not see why it matters. I am very much an each to his own person. Rock on Ladies. Peace in all that we do and think.

What a wonderful treasure find, Nancy! I love that book! I'm like Nicole - give me a worn old book with lovely graphics and that old book smell - I'm in heaven! Even better if you can use it for décor!

Girls - I haven't seen the new movie yet! I'm HOOKED on the Winona Ryder version! Is there anything questionable in it? I see it's rated PG and nowadays you really don't know what that means! I'd like to take my 10 year old foster granddaughter and my 12 year old grandniece...Please let me know what you think - is it clean? Is okay to take them?

Barbara - I think in today's social climate it can be so easy to lose sight of something as simple as just enjoying a work for the work it is, don't you? I don't think sexualizing an author makes me enjoy or dislike a book anymore than I did before I knew that information. It doesn't affect my enjoyment of the story anymore than would knowing the author's race, creed, size, shape, political affiliation, or what color they like or whether they eat fast food every day or they prefer cats to dogs or have stinky feet or wear too much perfume or pick their nose and eat it (Eeeww- ok, that one might get me! LOL!) or have a bunch of speeding tickets or...??? You know what I mean? The author's personal information is personal. If she had wanted to share some aspect of her life so that we could gain a deeper understanding of some aspect of her work, she would have. The dear lady just wanted to write a beautiful heartfelt story for others to enjoy that honors the strength and wisdom and value and virtues of women. Mission accomplished! It evokes memories and feelings and nostalgia... It makes us laugh, it makes us cry, it makes us fall in love. It transports us to a simpler time and place in which many of us dream of being. It helps us see the best in people, and it makes us want to live by being our best, too. That's pretty awesome. So,I say enjoy a book for it's own sake. A good read is a good read, and "Little Women" is a beloved story that most people just treasure. All that other stuff really doesn't matter. Louisa May Alcott gave us this wonderful gift; I say let's just enjoy it. :)

Hugs -

Nini

Ladies---I am not worried---I love all people and we are all God's children for sure. But hey---I was a tomboy like Joe when a kid and I am married for 42 years. Each to his own---Don't get me wrong---not judging. I love all people.

Ladies---I don't want to burst your bubble---but when I was researching books by Louisa Mae Alcott to see if I could buy an old copy---I discovered that she was probably a lesbian. Research and see---tell me that it is not so. A hero of my girlhood years---ladies ---please give your input and research.

So nice to learn new things. Thanks! Beautiful book. I still have my 1960's book that I got for Christmas and have it on a book shelf in my TV room. I treasure it as my aunt gave it to me and we got so little for Christmas. I did not know there was a later book.

I loved the book and Katherine Hepburn's version of Little Women. I always cry in the same parts. You're so lucky Nancy to find such a special book. Enjoy reading it.

Nicole,
No I haven't seen the movie, I would like to. Probably wait until it comes on tv. Going to the movies kind of scares me these days. I love old books too.

What a wonderful find! I loved reading Little Women. I also love old books with pretty spines and great graphics. That would be pretty displayed on a dresser, Nancy.

Did you see the recent movie? It was a great version, though the actor they picked for the love interest looked 12 years old, lol!

Great find!

Nicole
