On Saturday we finally brought home our little Maylee! Our family has been dealing with a large void with the loss of our great dane in December. My kids have been lost without her and so has my other dog. We decided it would help our family with the healing process is we got another great dane. We got a different colored one because it would be too hard to get one the same. We named her Maylee after our last great Dane. My dad jokes saying she has big shoes to fill! So far my kids love playing with her and my husband and I enjoy the snuggles. My other dog ady wont play with her yet, but checks on her constantly, especially if shes crying. I give it a couple more days and they will be playing. Maylee is the largest of her litter and is currently 14 and a half pounds. I'm excited to she how big she will be. She is doing awesome with her potty training but doesnt like to be left alone in her kennel at night. I feel like I have a new baby again, but we are loving her!

Look at that face!!

Maylee had her spay yesterday and has been struggling a little bit. She was vomiting last night and this morning. Around 11 this morning she was finally able to keep some water down and her pain pill. Since then she has also had a little bit of food. I’m hoping tomorrow will be better. I feel so bad for her and wish I could make it all better. Luckily we haven’t had the cone of shame yet! I hope it stays that way!

She is pretty snuggly sometimes. Other times she is bouncing off the walls. Especially when it's snowing. She LOVES snow and runs laps everywhere. And then she will lay down and eat it lol. She is pretty funny. I will for sure keep you updated on her spay. But I do have a feeling she will have to have the cone. She is a licker now, so I don't think that will change between now and then.

Oh Krista! I CAN'T with those Dane lips! So soft snuggly and kissable! That and right behind her ears. I keep threatening to get another one, but we have an older dog (14), and not sure he could withstand another puppy. Annie was enough!
Let us know how the spay goes. Hopefully no cone of shame. When Annie got spayed, the vet said unless she licked, no cone necessary, and she acted like nothing had happened.
Good Luck!

Maylee Update!!

My big girl is now a year old and went in for her year check up and consultation for her spay. She now weighs 104 pounds! And the doctor says she is a big stocky girl. She goes in on the 26th of this month for her spay. Always makes me nervous but I know she will be fine.
I can't believe how fast our year has gone and quickly she grew!

Thank you! She has grown so much since that last picture. I’ll have to get another updated picture up. She is such a sweetheart and still the biggest scaredy-cat ever. Babies that crawl scare her the most lol. It’s hilarious.

Lisa you are so sweet. Last Sunday is when she started bleeding so I ran real quick and got the xl size dog diapers. Today is day 8 of her bleeding so we shouldn’t have much longer to go. The next week will be a challenge as well. Many dogs around here are able to roam free and we don’t have a fence. I will need to take her out on a leash so we don’t have any boys getting to her. We have already had a boy dog visit. So I have been keeping an eye out really closely.

Oh shoot! Krista, if you want I will see if I can find any of my Dane "period panties" They have a tail hole and velcro like a regular diaper and you can put a pad in them. I think I might have gotten rid of them, but if not, I can send them to you

My sweet little Maylee has gone into heat. Our vet told us to wait until she was a year old before we fix her that way she would receive all her growth hormones. She is now 9 months old. We almost made it. Having a dog in heat is no fun and very difficult getting a diaper on a large Great Dane even though it does look funny! I sure hope it goes by quickly and she can be diaper free again soon.

Nancy, she is very tall and she has grown so fast that it feel like it has come out of nowhere lol! When she hits her year mark I’ll have her stand next to me so I can show you all how tall she is.

Darlene I agree. I always had an animal growing up and would be lost if I never had any. I just fear for the day when my middle child comes home asking for a spider or snake for a pet. I do not like them and prefer them to stay out of my house lol!

Thank you Dianna.

It's wonderful having children grow up with pets. It teaches them so much. Compassion, responsibility, friendship, kindness and sharing,(your bed) LoL!
We need Everleigh to be a vet! She's sweet!

Lisa, I agree! I have lucked out and both my Danes are smart, but our old neighbor had a Dane that was as dumb as a box of rocks lol. My Zakell sure loved to play with him though. I do find myself calling Maylee Zakell sometimes. I miss her tremendously, but blessed to have Maylee as well. Your Dobie is pretty cute! I love how she sits on the chair. Maylee would sit on the couch if she could but my husband says no. I feel otherwise though lol

Darlene, sometimes I think Everleigh will grow up and be a vet. She adores animals and always gives our dogs hugs and kisses. She even holds bugs so sweet and tenderly.

Nancy, thank you! I’m intrigued to see how much more she is going to grow. My last Dane was not food motivated and barely tipped the scale at 100. Maylee is very food motivated so I bet she will pass her up. I think I’ll attempt to weigh her this week.

Krista, Maylee is so grown and gorgeous! You are so lucky.

Lisa, Dobies are the best. They did have a bad status for a while which is untrue. They are lovers but look tough to others. That is all I need. Annie is beautiful too.

Oh Krista! A mommy's girl! So sweet! I miss the floppy jaws! Danes are either super smart, or, well, not so much. We had a fawn once that was gorgeous but dumb as a box of rocks. A dumb blonde??. But my harle Emily was so intuitive and smart, she was humanlike.
I know what you mean about not leaving your side. Our Dobie Annie is like that. She cannot stand to be away from us. They are known to be velcro dogs. I told my hubby that an oxymoron is "Runaway Doberman" LOL
So happy for you and your new Dane. Nothing better (although this Dobie is tugging at my heart too.

Maylee update!

Maylee is now 5 months and huge! I'm not sure what she weighs right now but back in April when she went for her last puppy appointment she was 50 pounds! She has finally lost all her razor sharp puppy teeth and towers over her big sissy now! She is so good with my kids and plays tug of war with them. We still dont have any fencing up in our yard but she refuses to leave our sight. Maylee knows how to sit, shake, lay down, and wait to be told to take her treat. I'm impressed with how smart she is and we are blessed to have such a sweet little girl. She has a favorite blanket now that she drags around and sleeps with. Shes my little buddy and I'm her favorite human. She will cry if I leave without her, but no one else. I secretly enjoy that she loves me most lol!

Had our next puppy appointment and she is growing like a weed! Maylee is now 31 pounds and bouncing off the walls! I wish I had half the energy she does! And Everleigh just loves Maylee. She cuddles with her just like she did with our last Great Dane. Melts my heart.

Oh Grace, if I could have a Great Dane rescue I would! When you think of his name let me know. I’m curious to see who it was. Thank you! I surely am. It’s kind of like having a new baby. All I want to do all day is snuggle her!
