Do any of you make your own slips?
I can only wear skirts, with tops
I am so short and short waisted that I cannot wear dresses
But, I have a Health concern that I have to wear pants mostly
I make ankle length skirts to wear in the summertime
to me a skirt and t- shirt is always cooler for me
I have never ,, ever been comfortable in shorts
I wear jeans and jogging suits in the winter
Years, ago I found some nice cotton in black so I made me a half slip
I need to make a camisole like top I guess when I make those.
Cotton is always cooler to me than the other slips.
I am a old fashion farm girl
soon going back to the country to live in our new home on our farm !!! Pinkroses ( Sheila)

I feel the same way about shorts...I havn't worn them since I was about 15 or so... I like long skirts or denim jumpers in summer time with tee shirts. I have a long denim skirt..tiered and ankle length...on now with a black tee and my newest apron. I have some white cotton (bleached muslin) that I intend to make a long half slip from..with a deep ruffle I think. I will let you know how it works out. We old fashioned farmgirls need our summertime outfits, right? I am either in bib overalls or skirts and tops this time of year. Winter sees me in overalls or jeans for sure. I agree...cotton is cooler. I like how it feels better too!

I have almost always worn skirts rather than pants, and have always made myself cotton slips, they are almost impossible to find in a store, and are very easy to make. I used to be pretty cold in the winter until I figured out about wearing leggings and dink boots in the winter (about 30 years ago) . I like cotton for almost anything, clothes, quilts, household linens. I just got a really interesting apron paaattern that is almost a dress, I'm going to try and make one and see how it turns out, and I'll probably make a new slip to go under it...Karin

oh gosh .. what sweet memories of 'half-slips' .. both the cotton ones and the silky ones with pretty lace. and the full-length ones (with the camisole tops and skirt bottoms) were great too! wonder why we don't wear them any more? i like the idea of not having a 'waist band' .. i always wear 'low rider' underoos ... cuz' i just don't like stuff cutting me in half. (i do wear long SKIRTS .. but prefer dresses without squinchy waists. even my shorts and jeans tend to be 'low-riders' (loved the olde HIP HUGGERS of the late 60's and early 70's!! and oh my .. CRINOLINS .. in the FIFTIES .. what FUN they were!!! of course, back then, i wasn't bigger than a 'second'.

i have always had pretty legs .. but they are soooooooooooooooo WHITE!!!! i don't like baking in the sun ... but won't wear shorts until i do get a little 'brown' on those bright white legs of mine!!!

i change with the wind (or season) on clothing styles. right now .. i mostly wear long skirts or fun pants that end at about mid-calf.

like most things .. styles come and go .. and come back again in some form other.

what has been your fav era for clothing styles that you have lived through?

I need to make some more
I am going to have to make some dark ones
I want to put on it some hand crocheted lace I make
I found some black fabric with a little pink rose ; which has a round white lacy thingy around the rose
I am going to make a bid apron I think
with a pink heart satin stitched in pink on the bib and maybe on the pockets
I have been making pink crocheted lace to go on the edgings.
oh, Karin
where did you get the apron pattern?
I love to collect apron patterns, mostly old ones and some of the new
ones.
Aunt Jenny,
I argee we do need those. Ha

I was a teen-ager in the 60's
The big thing to wear were Halter tops and hip hugger pants( hot pants)
I did have a cute red , white and blue one,
it had a vest to it
I wore it over to my mother-in-laws one day to talk about wedding plans
She asked if hubby had seen me in it and I told her I didn't think so
she thought I looked cute it it
I wore a size 5 shoe and 7 in outfits.
to be that small again,Lol
peace sign jewerly was in and mood rings
I often wore my dark brown hair in long braids
Oh, the old fashioned front tears suede jacket with the long fringed suede on the sleeves
I wore one of those
when weather permitted moccasins with finge
Can you imaine how I looked wth the huge round earrings and the peace
sign jewlry.
I still have the earrings some wheres almost big enough for bracletes !!
they are back in style
I guess it is true ; keep it long enough and it will come back in style
the olds I get in JoAnn's as the pattern books are cooking out with some older patterns now a days

Skirts and dresses are so much more comfortable in summer! Full slips are hard to find in stores now but half slips are easy to make, camisoles, too. Most of the time now I wear the petti-pants things instead of slips -- keeps sweaty thighs from rubbing together! Not as easy to make as half slips but still do-able.
