I simply cannot wait to do this. Maybe it's the crispness in the air, or the leaves that have already turned and fallen off my tree outside my living room window... I am ready for fall.
As most of you know we are up to 4000 lbs opf food donated worldwide to local food banks. It is because of your generous spirits that other people are eating home grown food this summer. Being an Heirloom Maven, that thought alone makes my heart soar! I trust that your giving spirit will last throughout the year and I am encouraging that through.....
The Mitten Tree. I live in the #1 jobless area of Ohio. It was on the news last night that Mansfield, Ohio and the surrounding areas has the highest unemployment rate of all Ohio. I would like to give back by hosting a Mitten tree for children that may not have a simple set of mittens this winter. I have a large tree that I am placing in my dining room that I will decoratewith donated mittens & such and upload pictures of.
I am asking for a simple donation of mittens, hats or scarves. They can be a handmade labor of love or a store purchased item. I will be donating these the The Pumphouse Ministries of Ashland & richland Counties. Thank you for your help! If anyone can make this happen, it's farmgirls like you!!!

Sounds like a wonderful plan, I will get some together for the tree. Wouldn't it be wonderful if you had so many that you wouldn't be able to see the tree!!! I love giving like this!

I'm going to JoAnn Fabrics today to pick up some of those mittens/gloves that are in the Dollar Aisle. I'm not a knitter or a sew-er so I'm going to embellish them with yo-yo's and maybe make the fingers into little people. Thank you for your emails! As soon as I dig out the Halloween decorations, I will put that tree up as well!

Hi Dawn -
I knit hats with a lot of my scrap yarn. I don't do mittens. Could you use some hats? They are a one-size-fits-all ribbed pattern.

I'm so tickeled that ya'll are interested in helping with this. I mean, after all that's been done with the farmgirl food drive, I'm just so humbled!
Ruth sweetie, you can take your time on this. December is cold in Ohio but the worst of it comes in Jan and Feb. It's just bitter, damp and cold here off the lake. Well, your in Ri you know!! lol. As long as I have them by the holidays so that I can take them up to the Pumphouse. I think that'd be great!
I've already started scrapping a card that says the warmies are from all of us! I hope to do pics! I need to be reminded! HA!
