Well not so wonderful neighbors is more like it! The other day I was getting up and thought my bedroom smelled strange. I didn't give it another thought. I got the kids up and got Ruby ready to go outside. As soon I went out the door, it hit me. My eyes went to watering and I could hardly breathe. There is a meth problem, ok a really bad meth problem, in our area, but I had never smelled the stuff cooking. But someone had told me, once you smell it there is no mistaking it you will know it.
I thought at first it was coming from across the road, but after asking around I found out someone much, much closer is into that stuff. :( And most say that the smell does not travel a large distance. The neighbors have a wood shed (which is where I believe the cooking was being done). This shed is not 8 feet from my bedroom! Which also explains why I could smell it in there, but not anywhere else in the house. I know that sometimes this stuff can explode. I just hope that doesn't happen and that an explosion from that won't be big enough to affect my home too.
I was told the next time I smell it, to call the police. They have dogs that can sniff it out fast and if they catch them in the process of cooking, it's an automatic goodbye-for-awhile.
Please keep your fingers crossed for us that my aunt calls and says the house is ready soon. And pray for my neighbor that he can break free from this evil stuff.

oh Melanie WOW that is scary....I thought when I saw the post "my wonderful neighbours" that this would have a happy ending...I guess not. I will keep you in my prayers that your house is ready soon and yes, a prayer for your neighbour wouldn't hurt either!

OMG! That's awful. Definitely call the police when you smell it again. But, don't be disappointed if they don't do anything right away. We had a meth lab in the neighborhood and it took over a year of calling the police before they were "legally" able to barge in.
I'll be praying for you. It's such a creepy feeling to know this is going on so close. Those "people" are unpredictable....be careful.

I live in a place where that is very common. I will be praying because it is a danger. If you don't get anywhere with local law enforcement remind them that you have children and are putting them in danger. I also told my local law enforcement I was going to contact state and federal people and make a bigger stink than the one produced by the neighbors! One of them is still in jail. Moving is a very good idea!!!

Be VERY CAREFUL! That stuff not only can explode if you can smell it you could be being affected by it (poisoning wise). I have read news articles where meth dealer's kids die because of just being in the same area as the cooking. And whatever you do, DON'T let on to ANYONE but the police that you suspect ANYTHING about your neighbors. Meth causes people to be suspicious and can be quite violent. I woudl hate for them to act out against you! Please Please Please be very safe!

Alee you bring up 2 very important points, the first is not telling anyone but law enforcement, and the fact that these people are very paranoid!!! We are all going to believe God to move you out Melanie!!!

Please contact the police, or at least Child Protective Services if your neighbors have children. And be very careful, people like that are dangerous.

DO NOT WAIT TIL YOU SMELL IT AGAIN, call now, and YES, if there is an explosion, you most likely will lose your house, along with anyone in it.

I have never smelt it and I hope I never do. Very scary, If you do talk to the police I think you going to them instead of them comming to your home may be safer. You and your family are in my prayers.

Call the police now , don't wait..This is a very dangerous situation! I'm worried for you. I used to live above meth dealers and am continually relieved to be away from them now. I sincerely hope that you can move very soon *hugs* please take care.

Melanie, be careful and don't breath that stuff. It makes people very sick. I can't believe people are the STUPID! What is wrong with this world. I sure hope you get them caught. I hope they don't have children. They are the ones that suffer the most. But be careful and call the police!

Thanks girls! I am going to get a hold of someone tomorrow. We have not smelt it since the other day thankfully. The law seems to be pretty 'lax in this area. I can say something, but if there isn't a smell, they most likely will not do anything about it. At least not immeadiately. :(
I really do hope to get this fixed before I move. My other aunt and uncle are moving in after the kids and I leave. While I will be very careful in how I handle the situation, my uncle will not. He will go over raising 10 kinds of cane and who knows what will happen or if the cooking continues then there are still those problems. I just really want this to stop now!
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. They mean so much to us.

Message from my husband, who happens to be a cop, is call local law enforcement. They have to start building a case...so as much as you (and the cops) would like to barge in on anyone who they think is cooking meth, that isn't the way it works. Fortunately or unfortunately, we live in America and you can't violate anyone's civil rights, including the people who are cooking meth. (Gosh, ain't it great to be free?) My husband says that you can call the cops and tell them what you know - who knows, they may be already building a case against them and your call might be the thing that gives them more proof. So CALL THEM!!!
Just had to step up and defend the cops for second. I don't usually do that (even though I'm married to one!) but you have to understand that even if they know there is someone cooking meth, if they don't go through all the red tape to make everything legal in how they searched their house, anything they find in there (even meth itself) will get thrown out and the bad guys go free. My husband doesn't like it either, but that's the way you have to play the game apparently.
Stay safe Melanie.

I understand Amy. I know a couple of officers who would like to throw away drug makers/dealers and never let them see the light of day again, that get just as aggravated as the rest of us when the druggies get off with next to nothing. Yes I do see where they want everything to go the way it should so they are able to keep people like that off the streets for a longer period of time. I won't go over to the neighbors house to do any snooping or anything else. I promise. I think that would be a really dangerous thing to do. One of the city officers I talked to awhile back, who is in charge of "the drug division" or whatever they call it (I really am not sure), told me that if I ever had any questions or concerns to call him up. So I plan on trying to talk with him tomorrow. It's just really scary since it is soooo close to our home. The kids like to play in the yard right out back of my bedroom when the weather gets warm like it has been. I have been trying to keep them as far away from that part of the yard as possible just to be on the safe side. Tell your husband, thank you for the advice. :)
