One of hubby's granddaughters is working on her doctorate in forensic phsycology. She lives in Manhattan, NY now instead of KS. It's a small world Nancy. This heat is below normal for us. It's normal for it to be above 110 for July and August. We got a swamp cooler this year and it has made a difference. Our electric bill for those months has always run us above $500 a month, each month and now we stay cool and the bill for July was $208. I've started drying clothes on the line to conserve electricity. All the sunshine is free and the air is so dry things dry as I hang them. I still dry towels (I like them soft) and permapress stuff in the dryer but it's kind of nice hanging clothes on the line again. Inyokern is called the sunshine captol of the US as we usually get 350 of sun a year. I like that nostalgia. I remember those days well. Our first tv was only a 7 inch black and white and snowy. Remember when there was only one tv in the house and it was usually in the hallway and if you were upstairs you'd have to run down to answer it?
Well, I'd better get going and get to town. I don't have to work today so can take advantage and run some errands before it gets hot. Everyone around here does that whether it's going to town, 15 miles away, or working in the garden. You do it early before it gets too hot. Have a good day everyone.....

Marsha...loved the Nostalgia! I remembered every one of those things...and just for a couple of minutes I did step back in time
and enjoyed the Good Ol' Days.

Betty...I think you meant the phone was in the hall way and you had to run down stairs to answer it...not the TV. lol I like Hot
weather Betty...but hot for me is in the 90's. You my dear have Scorcher weather.

CJ...Big Big Farmgirl Hugs. I am sure that you are very physically and emotionally spent! So Very Hard I am sure! I am
going a week from today to Spokane to see my little sister who is dying (just 56) and my first MIL who is dying. They are
only a 1/4 th of a mile from each other...but it is going to be a very hard week on me emotionally too. But I do not have
the added burden of caring for them like you have had since 2006.

Nancy...that is so cool that your youngest g-daughter wants to go into criminal forensics. Maybe she will be able to use
her love for art in that same line of work. Maybe she will even become a criminal sketch-artist. You just never know...
the two desires could work hand in hand.

Well, I walked the dogs this morning...then came home and cut my hair. I was trying to save $ by doing it myself. It looks
really good from the front but the back I about butchered it. Let's just say that I won't need a hair cut for a very
loooonnnnnggggg time! lol

Off to do something less scary than cutting my own hair. Have a Great days lovely ladies.

Quote for today: Remember this - very little is needed to make a Happy Life.

blessings,
peggy

I wrote a nice long message on Sunday and (I KNOW better!) I got sidetracked and e-mailed the lemon bar recipe to Judy or maybe it was Nancy (I forget - somebody got the recipe e-mailed to them) -- and anyway, ooops --- you know what happened! Pouf.

CJ .... hugs and prayers are on their way to you. I hope you are taking good care of yourself, too. Your aporn industry sounds like a happy diversion. I hope that's true.

And, Peg, my gosh girlfriend ... I am so sorry about your sister and former-MIL and prayers and hugs are on the way to you, too. Oh, and I'm sure your hair is very, very cute.

Betty -- glad you are home safe, sane and sound. I haven't had a chance to check out the pictures yet but will by tomorrow.

Hey -- you sisters who are finally getting a break in the weather .... enjoy! Ahhhhhh.

Lordy, lordy - nostagia: I remember everything except the Fort Apache play set. But I'll toss in my Bobbsey Twin books instead.

Nancy - Are you going to show up in San Francisco one day soon? If so, y' gotta give me a shout .... (if we are in town) I'm about an hour away from downtown SF. Your granddaughter sounds like a really focussed, talented and smart girl.

Peg - you asked about the Oakhurst house. It's actually a second home as opposed to a vacation home - we are there almost every weekend getting it ready for our retirement move next year sometime (And Nancy, I checked out every possibility and you were right - what I was describing would be considered a lanai. It could be considered a sunroom except there are no glass windows just a bank of screen windows the entire length of the balcony . (A veranda, it turns out - is actually wide open on all sides except, of course, where it is attached to the house.)

Tomorrow I plan on spending some time helping the Methodist ladies (the Trinity Methodist congregation and our St. John's Lutheran congregation share the same church facility) set up for their rummage sale on Saturday.

Wednesday morning - I'll be picking up at SFO, and spending a bit of time, with a grandson who spent the summer in Bejing. He graduates from Berkeley in December and is pursuing a career in International Relations. He is multi-lingual ... Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese, Spanish, French - and, of course, thank goodness, English. I think he has the biggest brain of the bunch and our family is a big bunch.

We are off to Huntington Beach Thursday to visit my MIL who is 91 - and still living alone (in a retirement community). We will return on Tuesday. So, I may or may not be able to connect for a few days.

Meanwhile, I am preparing publicity and tweaking volunteer schedules and assigning work areas. The first weekend in November I will be spearheading an annual Junque Sale which encompasses about 20 area churches and is held at St. John's. The proceeds go to benefit FISH (the grassroots emergency relief organization) with their food bank. We will raise about $10,000 - (far cry from that first sale when we raised about $250 and thought we were hot stuff.) Last week I received a certificate from our Congressional Rep - Anna Eschoo - for Outstanding Volunteer Service to the Community. Someone was sure sweet to put my name in. Recognition for thousands of hours of labor over the years is sort of like a pat on the back - and nice. My real life job when I worked for The Church was as a volunteer recruiter and organizer. I did that for about 15 years. As a community volunteer organizer and publicist - this year makes 34.

Isn't it nice that wine and chocolate are both now considered Health Food?

Here's to your health, sisters!

P.S.
Nancy -- there is a thingy on MJFarm's FAQs that talks about posting pictures. Maybe that will give you the info you need. (I just had my son - former Apple Genius - post my quilt photo). I'm really looking forward to seeing those dolls!

Hi girls. Haven't been on for a couple of weeks. My two daughters will be visiting at seperate times over the next couple of months. Finished one dishdrainer quilt and two dish cloths; am still working on the second set.

Have been baking up a storm, trying to use up my zucchini (doesn't include what I've frozen - lol). It's the only produce I've produced this year. At this rate, I won't have to bake all winter. Good thing we have a big freezer.

Loved the nostalgia Marsha. Guess we're showing our age I actually will still bend over the pick up pennies. It all ads up.

Chocolate anything....I want some.

I use photo bucket to upload my photos and it's quite easy. I got the instructions from the forum here on the main menu.

Late in the day now. Almost time for me to get dinner going.

Thanks for the nostalgia Marsha. I really enjoyed reading it. I loved remembering those days and all the fun I had. We used to do so much running, skating, and riding bikes. I don't see kids doing much of that nowadays.

CJ many hugs and prayer for you. Take care of yourself. You are doing a lot of giving and need to be sure to give to yourself.

Hugs and prayers to you also so Peggy.

Congragulations to you Darlys for getting that certificate for Outstanding Volunteer Service. What a wonderful contribution you have made. Thank you so much for the help with the advice on th photos uploading. I forgot I can go to the FAQ to remind myself how to upload the pics. I don't know why I am having trouble this time. I have been okay doing it in the past. I am going to blame the "monster" computer. Or do you think it could be me???? hahaha!!

I'm off to get my dinner going. Wonderful weather today.

Hugs,
Nancy

Betty and anyone else who doesn't know...now all you have to do is click on this little picture on the left of this Post box
and it will allow you to browse any of your stored pictures on your computer. Then you just pick your picture and upload it
right into this box. So, very much easier than when we use to have to use photo-bucket.

Hope that helps,
Peggy

I will try to get bigger ones tomorrow. In all my born days I never had so much trouble up loading photos! My goodness, I feel incompetent. I have done this so many times before. I think I will just laugh now.

Nancy...just remember to choose medium or large if your pictures are that small.

Nancy...Yahoo You Did It!!! I had to laugh when I saw the bigger photo because I thought you were trying to
post pictures of the grand kids.LOL They are either funny looking grands or VERY ADORABLE DOLLS!

I love the Artist one the best. But they are both cute.

Also, Nancy if you want to trash the posts where the pictures are too small. Just click onto either the Trash icon above your post
which is a picture of a piece of paper and a trash can. And it will let you go back in and delete them by giving your password.

Also, you can edit any post you do (say if you have some miss spelled words) by also clicking onto the icon above your post that is
a piece of paper with a pencil.

Hope those are helpful tips.

blessings,
peggy

Duh!!!!!! I finally found which icon I need to upload my photos. I was looking elswhere, not right where I post my message.

I just came in from cleaning out the chickens and aviary water bowls. Since we have well water the algae gets bad since there's no chlorine but I like the better water so have to suffer the cleaning of algae. It's not that bad really. My bantams ate out of my hand again. The lavender female always is the first one and then the silkies come next. The two roosters are more cautious but I want to keep them friendly for when my youngest grandson comes to visit and he can feed them. It's going to be another hot one today but this is the desert so it's nothing new. September will be hot also but should start cooling down by then. Have a good day everyone.

Judy: you go sis! great day for being outside and able to hang laundry, huh? enjoy...I am! well, being outside, not the laundry part. teehee

Marsha: boy, i remember most of those, also remember mama getting dishes in oats boxes.

Peggy: Your hair will grow back. I cut my own hair a couple years ago, ready to do it again. needs it.

CJ: Many hugs n prayers for you. I know what you're going through. I think your aprons are more of a blessing than you know.

Betty: a swamp cooler? never heard of it. love my line dried clothes. that sun is killing germs too. we had one phone in the house too and it rang and rang til you answered it...or missed it. :) thanks for pointing out that the image icon was in the post. so easy peasy huh?

AJ: I still pick up pennies too. Got some Nutella and my hubby loves it with stick pretzels, so another chocolate lover added to the list. that Nutella is the best hazelnut flavored chocolate I ever ate, so spreadable. :)

Nancy: Never knew we had the FAQ till I looked up in the corner..lol DUH!! LOL at me..

we've finally had a break in the weather the last few days, sooooo niiiice!! right about 80 or less and cool, dry breezes. I'm in heaven. haha made about 6 cups of elderberry jelly yesterday. went on a jeep ride,(we have an '87 jeep wrangler)looking for more elderberries and can't find ANY! glad we have 2 bushes on our property, but really wanted to make more. :( oh well, enjoyed a picnic out on some dry rocks in the river. water is pretty low, so made walking on the rocks easy. lil bugs played on top of the water, fish swam by trying to catch them as we sat in the shade munching p.b./elderberry jelly sammies and some chips. canadian geese and ducks were in groups just down a ways from us. was very relaxing listening to the water tumble over the rocks and watching puffy, white clouds in the blue sky.

Brenda: the posy IS in the ground, but has since went to seed and I'm hoping it STAYS 3 feet high. ;)
