I love the thrift store! Mom and I dropped some stuff off at our local Goodwill store yesterday and decided to look through real quick. (riiight) I found a new-with-tags long black linen skirt ($3) and a shirt just like one my boyfriend has ($2.50.) Awesome!

I try and go to the thift about once a week. I posted a picture of my latest finds. Its about two pictures back from the current one on my site. I probably won't be going again now until next week. Never know what you will find.

I found a grey cashmere scarf today for $1.00. I was so surprised - and very pleased. Its soooo soft and it looks perfect with my winter coat.

I scored big time today

~I have been searching online for a good pair of shoes but have a hard time justifying shoes over $80.00. On a whim, I stopped at the Thrift Store today, here is what I scored on:

-Dansko Leather Boots $5.00
-Dan Post Leather Cowboy Boots $5.00
-Dansko Leather Shoes (a style I have been wanting) $4.00

I also got a 'bag' of clothes for $4.00 to include a wool Eddie Bauer woman's jacket, a Levi Denim Jacket, 3 pairs of Mossimo jeans, and a Woolrich shirt, everything in excellent condition!

Now is a great time to go thrifting with people donating their old things for new.

Here's what I got this weekend, at a warehouse thrift place- $1.50! From the left- a polish marmelade pot, another onion soup bowl, and a french butter keeper-

I LUV 2nd hand shops..... especially since I like to re-work & re-create....
Our local Value Village has 99cent Mondays... what ever the tag color of the day is,, items with that color tag is/are 99cents... I actually got a sewing machine in it's cabinet for 99cents!
I am always on the troll for 100% wool items that I can buy for pennies, take home, launder and then cut up for crafts.
What ever would we crafters do w/o 2nd hand shops! lol!

YAY!!! "Glamping" goodies!!
Found this set of suitcases right after Christmas at a local thrift shop . . $5. for the set, in reasonably good condition. Gonna load 'em up with all my glamping linens, etc. for a Tent Glamping trip in March (in Arizona!) with my daughter.
Also just found a lovely vintage-look, ecru colored eyelet trimmed sheet that will be one of the linens we use.
AND, "Mr. Teddy" is an antique bear I've had in my bedroom for quite a while. Found him in the "Bargain Basement" section of an antique mall . . paid $5. for him. He's very "simple country". . . a handsome dude in his own right!

Had a great day at the thrift shop - 3 fabulous blouses for $1.75 each, a pair of jeans my size (even petite)for $2.50 and 2 perfect-condition vintage glass refrigerator containers for $6.00 each. That's a little on the high end, but nice size and perfect condition - with lids. I love them. I saw a smaller one with a chipped lid at Goodwill for $8.00.

A lovely picture frame I will convert into a display for my ATC collection, a great throw rug to go in the "glamping" stuff and a nice book I will try to give to someone . . . but that's a secret!

Got a ton of pure wool sweaters (men and women's) at Goodwill last week that I'l going to felt and cut up and make winter hats, mittens and scarves out of for gifts. only cost me $30.00. One of those sweaters alone would be that much in a store. But they were only $3.75 apiece! Will keep me busy over the summer.

I got 5 books for $1 at the VOA. One of them is Home Comforts: The Art and Science of Keeping House, by Cheryl Mendelson. A nice hardcover in excellent condition. I remember seeing this on the shelves at Borders when it first came out and not buying it because it retailed for about $35.

Annie - So glad you found those wool sweaters. I always forget to look for those... I'll have to put that on my list.

Amie - that book is great. I never bought it but checked it out at the library. It has tons of info and a good read. That was a fabulous deal. I didn't buy for the same reason as you - too expensive. Wow! Good for you...

SCORE!! Today at the thrift that supports our local shelter for battered women I found lots of goodies, including fabric. But for me these doilies were the true treasure.

There are 11 doilies here, the varigated green on the bottom and the yellow one on top are 20 inches in diameter. On the left is a child's dress, and then all other sizes and shapes. At top is a a candidate for pillow top or framed wall hanging. $3.00 TOTAL for it all!

I decorate my bathroom, bedroom and dining and sofa tables with doilies so I'm just tickled all shades of pink. I will share some with my daughter . . . probably the little dress as she loves purple and the doily with the grapes for her dining room which is vineyard/wine themed.

YAY!!

What a great find...I don't think people realize the time it takes to make these. I too love to shop the thrift stores and have found several doilies and table cloths etc. They make a room look so pretty.

What a wonderful find. I told my self, CJ, for the upteeth time, that this year I would teach myself to crochet. Everytime I make that granny square it is curly. I think you make such an amazing find in getting those doilies. The are so lovely and for such a great price.

Hugs,

I handwashed all of those items . . yes they were a bit dusty. Before putting then out for display, I ironed them. It is amazing how beautiful they are after they've been ironed. Two of them had little clusters around the edges that were all bunched up but when ironed one of them looked like a border of pansies and the other, small little 5-petal flowers. Of course, they all, no matter how fancy look better clean and ironed.
This thrift has a big bin where they put doilies, napkins and that kind of thing . . I look in that EVERY time I go in there and have found lots of wonderful treasures. But this find, I think, was the "jackpot" . . at least for me.
