i was thinking....maybe we will extend the mail out on this one since we have a larger number of swappers--so let's say may 15th mail out- that still gives time to play or create!!!! and we all know it will help me! always the lone tail dragger!!!!!

~*~ we are up to 10 swappers so i am closing this round~*~

We have had a blast making heart shaped yo yo's but let's change our swap up a lil bit!a few of us have given our talented, fearless leader a break in hosting and this time it's my turn so be gentle with me!

We have been making a total of 6 yo yo's for each swap partner and have been doing 2/2/2 of different "themes" ( round 6 was St Patrick's Day, Easter and Spring) - they really don't take long to make but-start NOW!!!! or you'll be like me always bringing up the rear of the send out!

for this next swap let's get Patriotic.... it's a little early but we don't want to get caught off guard and this way will have time to maybe incorporate our finished yo yo's into a wonderful project before the "flag" season really begins! While we should always be displaying our American flag (my opinion!) we tend to think of Memorial Day, Flag Day and the 4th of July as the biggies!

so--sign up by April 1st and mail out by May 1st--
I'll need you to email me with your real name/screen name and mailing address and email. Tell me whether or not you want buttons put on the yo yo's you will recieve.....

here's the change up--let's use round or heart shaped yo yo's--maker's choice! Pegsmiles has a wonderful heart shaped yo yo tutorial on her blogsite -go to the Thursday Aug 11 post http://ladyinredsite.blogspot.com/
we're looking at 4" yo yo's - I'm sure a round one would be simple!

soo- let's make 2 in star fabrics 2 in stripes and 2 of the maker's choice in a color scheme to match the patriotic theme .

after sign ups close, I will email the list of addresses and when you mail out your yo yo's, i ask that you attach them to a card or card stock. any tucks are purely optional but always fun!

again, maybe it's early to think of the flag holidays but we farmgirls don't want to get caught off guard with our other duties this time of year, planting and family social things!

this is a fun swap and easy to carry along in the car or to doctor's offices etc....

sign ups begin now!

update 3/25 :
our numbers are at 9 right now- maybe room for one more???????

I am game..the last yo-yo swap was a blast. I too will make round and one heart shaped yo-yo, and buttons are a nice finishing touch.
Thanks for hosting this swap.

Oh yeah, Margo...I meant to comment on the 4 inch size too. The heart ones are that template size.
Before we sew them. So, a 4 inch round should be the template size too...not the finished size.

Also, for those of us use to working off my template and turtorial...
with a round yoyo...you first turn a 1/4 inch hem and then sew.
Especially improtant with the round shape and draw as tightly as you can...
but you will have a small hole on the round.
We have discovered that if we pull really snuggly...we can do a heart shape with no hole visible.
Just a couple things to keep in mind when doing them in the round.

Thanks for the question Judith...to jiggle my brain! Ha Ha!

Hugs,
peggy

Peggy and Margo..thanks for the answer to my question. After I posted I realized I was probably just having a "duh" moment. This Patriotic swap sounds fun. I have to think on it a couple of days..(tend to bite off more than I can chew sometimes.)

Yesterday Went with my husband across town, on a car part run. yea !!! there was a fabric store, I purchased my red white and blue fabrics for the swap. Found stars and stripes, great looking pieces. I am excited, Mowed 2 pastures today, and weed eated the barn and around the chicken yard. Lots of work, today, but sunny and slight breeze, great day to be a farm girl. 9 new baby ducks overnight. Gonna look next week for buttons, hopefully I am early enough.
Have a great Sunday!! Farmgirl #946 Linda

Oh how I have been waiting for you all to host a round yo-yo swap. Can you tell me roughly how much postage will be? Thank you.

Have a good day!

hi michelle!
postage depends on a few things- some gals manage to make it work in a regular greeting card envelope with little to no tucks (and lightweight buttons) for 65 cents while many use the small manilla envelope (6 X 8 ??) for $1.95...

would love to have you join us--we hadn't set a limit (max) to participants but i know that last round we stuck at 8 to keep it manageable-and we are there now- so------jump in fast!!!!!!

i know that i have some of my fabric and bought some cute star buttons today--

Please include me. I do want to let you ladies know that at this time I am unable to afford a high postage bill, so unfortunately I won't be able to afford to send tuck-ins and in return do not expect them. I hope you understand. I look forward to seeing your yo-yos.

Have a good day!

Well girls, I bet you will all be glad when I know what y'all are talking about and don't have to ask for explicit details to find out. I don't want to disappoint any one by not knowing what you are talking about and thereby sending the wrong thing or nothing at all 'cuz I didn't understand. So.... what's a yo-yo and what do you use them for etc. It sounds like I would like to do this, but I just want to be sure I understand. If you will let me know, then I will let you know for sure, but tenatively I believe I would like to do this. I'll be gone this weekend, my son is getting married Sunday, but I will be back and ready to go on Tuesday, the 3rd. If you could go ahead and sign me up I would appreciate it. Also, could you explain the button thing and 'tuck-ins'. I know, I'm such a rookie, but you need one every once in awhile for everyone to talk about so that the ones who usually get talked about get a rest!
Anxiously awaiting your explanation!

Lainey Lou #3848

P.S. I'll send the particulars when I get back! Thanx again!

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we might as well dance.

Lainey I posted a picture of heart shaped yo-yos; one with a button and one without. This is my first time making them and I am now addicted. So much fun! And easy. I bought a template at my local Hobby Lobby. It was about 7 dollars. I hope you join it will be fun to have another newbie. And I am told you can do just about anything with them.

Lainey...I have a tutorial on my LadyInRedSite...that will show you exactly how to make
a yo-yo step by step...without having to purchase a template. You just make your own out of
cardboard. But whatever works for you...is the best way to go. But atleast take a look at
mine before you decide to go out and buy a template. There are many uses for them...and if
you go back to the Farmgirl SWAPS forum and look for Round 6 of the Heart Shaped Yo-Yo's you
will find pictures posted of some of the ways I have used them.

Julie...beautifully made YoYo's Girl! You are now an Official Yo-Yo Mama!!!! lol And they
are so addicting!!!!

blessings,
Peggy
