Just wanted to know if any girls out there have ever used bluing when washing whites?
Does it work? I need to get some whites really, really white....

Yep, used it on whites, on my hair, to get rid of the yellowing, and on my white bulldog to make her shiny white in the show ring. You learn quickly to use it sparingly! Be sure to mix it in a cup (or pitcher) of water before adding to wash water.

Melina....I bought some cotton toweling 3-yards on-line with a red stripe down the side. Do you think I could use it on that?

| Bluing is safe to use for that. Melody. What I do, though, to prevent blue splotches, is to mix the bluing (I like Mrs. Stewart's) into about 2 quarts of water, and add it to the wash water, then swish it in a bit before adding the fabric. |

UGGGH...I'm having a heck of time finding Mrs. Stewart's bluing. DH and I headed to Brubaker's an Amish country store and one of the girls told me that they used to carry it but no one buys it anymore and to try local pharmacies. I ended up at two different ones without success, but I have two more places I want to check out tomorrow. It looks like I will have to buy it on-line-Grrrrrr.....shipping is so blasted high!

How do you use this on your hair? Like on salt and pepper hair?

In hair it takes out the yellow highlights and makes the white "whiter". I put about 4 drops in a 2 quart pitcher, add warm water to the top, then pour it over my hair. Don't rinse. It doesn't change the color, just makes it brighter white. There are shampoos that do the same thing (Shimmer Lights, etc.) but they are very harsh on your hair.

I love the bluing! I wrote a blog post on it recently, a few weeks ago. For my whites, I run the washer, put the bluing in and mix it with water in a cup before adding the clothes. It is absolutely amazing. Good luck.

FOUND SOME!! After checking out a dozen different places I found a store nearby that carries it... unfortunately they are "out of it" right now, but will be placing an order and then calling me. I can't wait to try it....

we buy ours at fred meyers. one of the farmgirls a ways back suggested i use bluing on my cow who had warts. huge warts. we had tried medicine over and over. we squirted them with bluing and they started to shrink next day. they are totally gone. just a side note. i love the older products. have any of you made the crystal garden. you mix bluing and epsom salts. the directions are on the tag on the bottle. kids love watching them grow. smart simple solutions are here at farmgirl central happy days sherrye

I was amazed how many women I encountered searching for bluing that had NO clue what it was for!When I did find one I said "Do you know what bluing IS?" and she said "Sure...it's that stuff that makes crystals!"
I too love the older products simple and they worked!
I ended up buying it on-line and it should be here tomorrow. The store I found near me that said they would order it called the next day and said they wouldn't. I almost countered with "Do you realize how much money I spend in this store every week?" But, this year I have promised myself that I am going to learn to "Never miss an opportunity to keep my mouth shut." It's proving to be kind of difficult LOL!

we put a some in the stock tanks, helped keep the nasty sour smell from droped half chewed food from stinking, also keeps alge down, and mosqiutos will not lay their eggs in water that has blueing...neighbors turned their grey quarter hoses blue with their bath rinse water, and as they dried, they looked like spun silver...

wow tina thanks for the tank idea. i will start using it in my stock tanks that are metal. i use acv in the plastic tanks. so this will take care of the metal ones. happy days to you sherrye
