My wild guess is the fabric left over from when you take an item in. Like shortening a skirt or alterning a jacket...

Oops! Sorry Fran and Linda, my IPad corrected me incorrectly...I meant to type vintage. I make vintage and thrifted fabric into repurposed goods. Sometimes I do use intake material though - that seam area that is leftover when I alter an item. Looking forward to seeing what we all come up with.
