How exciting! I've been running my shop on etsy for almost four years now and would be happy to offer some advice! What kind of items would you like to sell? I'd be happy to answer any questions either here in the forums or feel free to send me an email via my profile-good luck! :)

Iam looking to start a etsy page too.

Iam curious as to how you set it up with paypal & if theres any additonal costs I should be aware of. You know like having to pay either Etsy/Paypal before anything actually sells. Like what kind of start up money I might need.

Live simply. So that others may simply live.

You will need to go to paypal and set up an account there (if you don't already have one), but it's pretty easy to do. I would also encourage you to set up a separate email account just for your business (and use that for your paypal account). When you are ready to list your items in your new etsy store, set up your account on etsy and then you can follow the directions to list each item. You'll need about 4-5 good photos of your item and a description, etc. They do try to make it pretty user friendly. Each item you list on etsy costs .20 cents (and that's for 3 months, I believe). Etsy will keep track of your listing fees and send you a monthly bill. When an item sells, etsy does take a small percentage off the total sale (similar to ebay, but I don't think it's as much) and you don't have to pay paypal up front, but when an item sells, they also take a small processing fee. I'm not sure there is anyway around the fees when you are doing business online. Both paypal and etsy will show you exactly what is being taken as fees if you look at your account activity. I know it's a lot to take in all at once and it's easy to be overwhelmed, but just take it step by step and you'll be surprised at how quickly you will become adept at building your etsy business!

That is one of the positives about etsy-you really don't need a ton of start up money! I started with one item in my shop back in 2008-when it sold, I added another one, etc. and now I do pretty well. Just remember to be patient-it does take time to build a presence on etsy (as anywhere on the web), so don't be discouraged if you don't see a ton of activity right away. Hang in there and you will.

If you need help, just give me a shout!
You can find me at: www.annastrunk.etsy.com
or you can send me a message either through the etsy message service or here at MJF

I'm always happy to help new etsians!! Best of luck to you both!

Having an Etsy shop is great fun so go for it and have a great ime with it.

Chicken is correct that it cost .20 to list and item and it stays listed for 4 months unless it sells. And the fee for selling an item is 3.5%. Much cheaper than the big E!

Etsy is a great venue with great folks.

Let us know when you get things running you 2 I want to check you out.

Thank you ladies for the input. I am going to sit down and get things going soon. My daughter did make me an account but I haven't even looked at it much yet and we didn't do the credit card part yet cause I didn't want to mess up..Lol

I too wish to set up an Etsy shop sometime in the near future.

Thank you, Laura, for asking the questions and than you all for the excellent advice.

Glad I stopped by!
