May 20-26 is National EMS Week. If any of you are an Emergency Medical Technician or EMT-Paramedic, I would be very interested in your stories--what you do, how you got started, why you chose EMS, etc.

And not just EMS. There are bound to be some "firegirls" out there!

Me, I've been an EMT-Basic for 21 years. Only a couple of those years were as paid personnel, the rest has been as a volunteer. I'm also a certified Rescue Technician. Mine was a humble beginning, I guess you could say. While my mom was battling cancer years ago and a lot of time was spent with her in the hospital, I decided to take a CPR class. I so enjoyed it, and realized I wanted to know more. Took an EMT class, joined our county rescue squad, and the rest is history!

For those who are not familiar with emergency services, it takes a lot of training, that training is continuous in order to keep certifications current, it requires working in heat, cold, rain, snow. It requires stamina, the ability to keep calm and cool, the ability to hold back when you want to cry, waking up from a fitful sleep at 3:00am to run jump on an ambulance or rescue vehicle and get where you need to fast. And usually, all that is asked (unspoken, of course) is a simple "thank you".

And I DO thank all of my fellow emergency services gals. I appreciate your dedication and I want to hear YOUR stories.

Thank you Darlene, and all EMS and Emergency Service Workers- Firemen/Women..the list goes on and on. It is easy to take for granted when you pick up the phone and call 911 that someone will always be there.
I appreciate your service and your caring, kind and compassionate souls!
God Bless you!
Hugs,
