i thought this was a cute story. thought you all would enjoy it we had the kids and grands over yesterday. we ran and played and held kid goats and pigs. so much fun. we were ready for ice cream and the kids and i went out to check animals. we hear peeps and peeps and ran to look. there were 4 little black babies. all of us were so excited. mama was quacking and saying come on lets go for a swim. we went in for goodies. my son came out and said there is chirping everywhere. so we all went to look. we found 2 black chicks not ducklings. mom was in the big pond calling her babies. one chick had some problems with a leg and did not make it. angie and i start catching the little ones. she says these are not ducks these are chickens. all of a sudden we run to the pond and see a chick in the pond. it is swimming for its life. chirping and swimming. mama duck is quacking saying come on get out here. i had to jump in and save this little chick from drowning it was barely an hour old and was swimming hard for its mama. i was able to scoop it up out of the pond. it was bound for a certain death. i was above my knees to save it. we were going to put them in with the new turkey chicks. angie and the kids ended up taking them home. we were afraid the turkeys might hurt them. so we are all done with the chicks coming back from the poultry barn we here the men yelling. when we come around the hill they say the pigs are out. oh my gosh. so the little pigs 3 in all were running around crazy. the kids were chasing them. everyone was excited. so i ask them to go up the hill we put up a portable panel and them ran them into jelly beans pen. today we will rearrange the pigs. so much fun at nanas with farm critters. so a nice hot day a swim in the creek and some fun animals round ups. all in all a fine day for all on the farm.

What a day you had Sherry! Never thought about a duck momma hatching chicks and then wanting them to come for a swim but of course she would. Glad all came out well!
Holy smokes! You sure know how to throw a party! Never a dull moment at grandmas, huh? So glad you saved the little chicks. Wonder how they got confused into thinking they had a duck for a momma! Glad you all had a fun time!
Loved your story! What a blessed and fun day you had with family! Farms definitely have their great and fun times as well as hard work! Thank you for sharing!!

i called and checked on the chicks today. even the one that walked a long way to the pond and took a swim of about 50 feet is up and walking i must add a chicken had laid eggs in the duck nest. i think the chicks hatched first. the duck eggs are still sitting there. she was calling and coaxing those chicks through the grasses on the edge of the pond. there was that little chick paddling for its life. chirping at mom who was quacking like crazy. so yes it was a fine happy day. soooo cute.
