I am working on earning my Merit Badge by researching the Cajun Culture. I will share some of what I have learned, the one person that influenced me to be interested in this is Justin Wilson better known as the Cajun Cook. He spent his life enjoying people and spreading the Cajun Culture to others around the world. He was a southern chef and humorist known for his brand of Cajun cuisine-inspired cooking and humor. he was a self-staged "raconteui". Justins cooking series was aired from coast to coast on Public television and world wide on Armed Services television. I learned about Justin from my parents. They loved watching his cooking show along with his humor. When I would visit we enjoyed his show together. I was influenced by him to have a great interest in the Cajun culture and New Orleans. I would love to visit there someday and take a cooking class. Peggy |

Hi Peggy: Justin Wilson was one of Louisiana's beloved humorist and cooks. I hope you do get to visit Louisiana one day, especially Cajun country. You'll find the best food and the most friendly people. Good luck on your Merit Badge. It was enjoyable reading your post. Your title sure captured this Cajun's interest. Thanks. Marly

Hi Marly, Last year at this time three of my sisters drove to New Orleans, they loved it and one sister said if she was younger she would move there. They drove along the Gulf in Louisiana , enjoyed so much Cajun food and really met a lot of nice people. When I do the expert merit badge I will be researching the Holiday traditions and cook up a Cajun meal for that holiday. I am really looking forward to that and sharing a new food with friends and family. Nice hearing from you. Peggy |

Peggy: Let me know when you do your Holiday research. I might be able to give you some information. My husband and I are in the process of moving to Texas. But, we have a camp out in the Achafalaya Swamps. That will be our Louisiana home to come home to. Keep me posted on your project. Good luck. Marly

Deborah, it is nice hearing from you. I actually live about 45 min. from Joplin past Pineville in the country. Thanks for inviting me to join your group. Right now my husband is in bad health and I can't leave him alone for very long. When he gets better I will contact you and if nothing else it would be nice to meet some Farm girls in my area. Marly, I hope you got moved and settled in. I have been reading about different traditions for Cajun Holidays. Since I love Christmas I decided to make a Cajun Christmas meal and do some of those traditions for my family. I have family coming to visit so decided this would be a good time. Can you give me some idea's on your food and traditions ? Thanks Peggy |
