So, the other day, I was making Farm Girl muffins from the Mary Jane's little book and magnet set, thinking about what I was going to plant in the garden after breakfast. Suddenly, I hear a chick peeping in the incubator (it's in my laundry area). I run over to the incubator and see that the chick has made its way around the shell. I go ahead and hatch the chick (pop off the 'lid' of the egg), place baby chick in my secondary incubator I use for a brooder, and went straight back to making muffins.
I looked up and thought, "Whoa...I'm an official farm girl now, aren't I?" lol! Who else could go from making muffins to 'birthin' a baby and then straight back to muffin making?
Ever have a farm girl moment?

That certainly made me smile! Oh the talent of multitasking that becomes second nature. I've learned so much and found I'm a lot more self-sufficient than I ever knew I could be. We actually take a lot for granted about what we can deal with daily.

Lol, thanks, all :0) Yes, I love the feeling of self-sufficiency that comes with knowledge. Don't you all? I mean, it's amazing what we can do! Annika, fortunately baby chick stayed well away from the muffins, lol.

She's just not right, she's *awesome*! lol! Noodles take what, 3 ingredients? I've made our own, too, and they're delicious. Oh well, I'm off to hem some curtains and check on the new baby chicks :0)

Yes!
Started the morning early with taking care of the 7 baby chicks in the basement, then going out to care for the hens and then the rabbit.
After work, my DD and I cleaned out the outside chicken pens and coop, in preparation for when the new chicks can go outside (which wont be for about 4-5 weeks more).
As I was out there getting all dirty and raking and shoveling chicken manure, I DEFINATELY felt like a farmgirl....and I LOVED every minute of it!
Love living on my shy acre and tending to all things farmgirlish!

I can't wait to get chickens of our own! We only have a cat right now. lol
BUT, I felt like a "farm girl" today too. As much as one can in the subburbs.
Fed kids breakfast.
I cleaned the house, started laundry and dishes, organized and shuffled out too small clothes in my children's dressers.
Then I went outside and put new gravel in the rock garden (was here when we moved in, but it didn't have enough gravel and looked kind of shabby), pulled weeds, raked leaves, planted flowers, and laid down mulch.
Came in fed kids lunch.
Made Strawberry Jam.
Went back outside and did more gravel. Fixed rake! lol Spray painted bird bath a new color.
Homeschooled DD in Kindergarten.
Fed kids dinner.
Then helped my parents with the Medicare papers.
Labeled and put away earlier made strawberry jam. Washed those dishes. Washed more clothes. Bathed children.
Finally putting my feet up. Yup felt like a full farm girl day...with out the animals...I WANT chickens! :)

I thought of you yesterday, when one of our chicks escaped her box and ran down the hall and into the kitchen. Ha ha ha!
Yesterday, with dirt covered knees, no make up, sweet rings under my arms (long day in the garden), I went to the store for some needed items. I could have cared less if anyone I knew saw me that way. Then we ran into Hubby's friend's mother. Hubby introduced me to her and I told her "sorry, I don't usually go to the store looking this way after gardening." She responded, "it's all right, I'm a farmgirl too."

Lovin' it! We're all having 'one of those days'...in a great way!
Two thoughts: The only thing bad about chickens is that they're terribly addictive (!!!), and, I have drug myself up to the store with mud boots, sweat rings, a bandanna wrapped around my head and pretty filthy. Hey, that's what hard work looks like, am I right???
