My mom and I were just talking about this the other day. About how she always had to have matching shoes and purse. She had hundreds of pairs of shoes and that many purses. So fun to talk about the "old days". And I do believe the dresses from the '50's and '60's are coming back in style around here. I have seen some vintage looking dresses at the market.

When I was a kid, growing up on the farm, we HAD to order things from the "Monkey" Wards or JC Penneys catalog. It wasn't until later that a Penney store was built in town and much later a Sears store but to this day, Sears is only for appliances and such.
After my hubby and I moved back here in the 70s there was a Montgomery Wards store but it was very limited and we still had to order many things from the catalog.
Those WERE the days! CJ
AND, I haven't had a pair of heels on in over ten years . . ;)

Oh I love these! I have the 1965 thru 1968 Sears Christmas Catalogs. Every Christmas, when my family comes over, I get them all out, and we have a blast remembering," oh, I had that doll or that bike," or "I always wanted that, but didn't get it!" LOL!

Actually I do wear heels, dress, and apron, but I prefer our wood floors to carpet, so we don't have carpet to shampoo. But, I steam mop in said outfit. lol :)

Matching shoes and purse was how I was raised...still have a hard time going against that grain! I may not have heels on but I will clean in a cute dress and apron! Why not?
I remember the big catalogs. My mom still ordered stuff from the JCP catalog when we were kids, even though a brick and mortar was close. We'd take things back if they didn't fit. Ours had a huge candy counter in the middle, and I remember my mom letting me get a little candy when she would go shopping. Miss those days!

I remember the "Labor DAy" rule (Loralie) I remember how excited my sister & I would get when the Sears Christmas catalog arrived. (Connie)
You could find just about anything & everything in those catalogs.. even discreate 'personal hygiene' items... all privately shipped to your front door.
Hubby & I were looking at and laughing at the antiquated exerciseing equipment... And how great description was applied to items like 'Asbestos' flooring... long lasting, easy to maintain... lol!

I still follow the Labor Day rule ;-) I loved it when the Sears catalog came. I happened upon a 1957 Sears Spring catalog & look through it often & I use those old purses, gloves, hankies, compacts & jewelry on an daily basis & have some of the very same purses, gloves, hankies, compacts & jewelry pictured in it :-) Yes, times have changed & will continue to do so but the quality will never compare with the past....

I remember sitting on a velvety type stool, in a Department Store in downtown Hartford, Conn., while my mother would try on matching hats, gloves, handbags & shoes,as only a skinny little 8-9 year old could do, legs dangling off the stool, probably humming and fidgiting.
I even remember, while living in New Britin, Conn., mother making matching dresses for herself, my little sister, and me, Easter of 1966...we even had white hats and gloves & handbags... I will have to see if I can find that photo.... Sweet memories.
