Has anyone used sock looms? Should I try the one that is bigger and uses worsted weight yarn? I have the one that uses sock yarn but I was surprised it needs more than one skein. I have to go out and buy more yarn. Darn! Need help here.

Sylvia I tried a sock loom last year. I found it very time consuming and to this day it is sitting in my sewing room. I only got about 2" done. I thought it would of been more exciting, lol. I think I'd rather learn to knit socks to the old fashioned way. It would probably be quicker.

Ditto. I so wanted to learn to knit socks and still do. But the
sock loom was a disaster for me. But I have not given up. I am now
learning "Continental Knitting". It is easier and faster than
American Knitting...once you learn it.

I bought a sock loom last year and gave up after trying a few times. Too distressing for me! I love all my other looms, but that one was just too much....as in fooling with and the price!  What a waste!

I first learned of continental knitting recently from a
woman who runs a yarn shop. They do have classes
there, but not until December. I am too impatient
to wait. At another shop the owner told me of a site
that has excellent video lessons. And she was right. I am
learning, but my stitches still need a lot of work. The site

Oh I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one that got frustrated with the sock loom. I too tried it once and became quickly disenchanted with the loom. Thank goodness I haven't lost my interest in learning to use looms since I joined a weaver's guild and recently startd learning to use a rigid heddle loom.
I knit in the English Style and taught myself to knit socks the old fashioned way and it is a lot easier and faster for me to make them this way. I recently purchased and rehabed a cast iron sock knitting machine from the WWI/WWII era and am excited to learn to make socks on it like they did back in the day.
Glad to hear people do enjoy making socks.

Sounds like we have a club of abandoned sock loomers. I also have a sock loom with about 2 inches of work and now just sitting. I used to have an old sock knitting machine as well. Found that mine didn't run smoothly but would love to try that again. Just love homemade socks. Any tips on an easy and quick way to learn to make socks send my way.

Have you had a chance to see if your sock machine runs any smoother? I need to sit down and learn to use mine. Hopefully it will run okay since I tore it all down and cleaned it up last year. I may need to give it a little oil where needed.

Perfect timing, I saw a 'Sock Loom' recently and thought it would be cool, but I can see myself like so many of you, getting bored and or frustrated and the loom would end up in my Donation box... lol!

I'm with you all as well. Had a sock loom and wow...it wasn't as fun and easy as they say it was. Knitting socks is so much fun and faster.
about the sock machine...where did you find one? I'm very interested in finding one myself. but they seem very pricy if that's what I'm thinking your sharing to us. COuld you post a picture of sock machine. would love too see it.

I have sold my sock knitting machine but you can see them and all the parts on ebay if you look up antique sock knitting machine. I think my problem is two fold. First I am impatient and knitting socks the regular way was just not fast enough and then after I get one done I am not motivated to do another. I have tried the circular peg looms-the sock comes out like a tube sock and a flat knitting machine where you have to sew a seam in the sock. None look as good as the old fashioned way. Any ideas on how to knit a quick good looking sock?

My aunt gave me a sock loom and some yarn. I haven't tried it yet...hmmmmm. I love my round looms for hats..and I make scarves and warm head bands. I might have to give the sock loom a try though and then get back with you girls.
