I had 3 of the 4 parathyroids removed last year. Well, it seems my levels have not resolved. I have not felt well (also have Lyme disease) but thought it was other issues. My blood test show that I am still have issues and also kidney function levels are elevated. I am paranoid they are going to want to remove the other parathyroid. That worries me because of the hormonal issues. I still have not recovered from the hormonal part for the last one. For some reason I do not do well with drugs, hormones, etc. We are working on figuring out why I don't. Any suggestions? I have enough on my plate with Lyme Disease, I really don't need another issue to worry about.

I do not have any answers for you, but am definitely praying. I am going through similar issues, sort of..... I have a mass on my adrenal gland causing hyperaldosteronism and will be having one of my adrenal glands removed with the mass. Once that settles down, I also need at least two of my parathyroids removed due to hyperparathyroidism :/ From what I am told, either surgery can cause huge havoc on your hormones and electrolytes. Have you checked into herbal remedies? I'm not familiar with any, however, "welltellme.com" may be a great source for herbal information.

Shannon, So sorry....... Yes, I had three of 4 parathyroid removed and now the other is acting out. Now I know why my throat feels like I have a tumor, legs hurt (calcium be drawn out), hormonal issues, mood swings, depression, insomnia, etc. Have to find out where to go. Hesitant to go back to the gal that did my first surgery, obviously she didn't get it right. Not very many specialist in parathyroid world I had never heard about the electrolyte issues. Going to read up on that. I do know there is a supposedly good clinic in Tampa, FL and their website is parathyroid.com if you are interested in reading up on it. Prayers going your way.

I have had mine removed as well, no hormonal issues as the parathyroid controls calcium and not estrogen/progestron. I am on hormone replacement due to a hysterectomy many years ago and the doc advised I stay on it to help control the bone loss of osteoporosis. Have you have your thyroid levels checked, that will mess with the the mood swings and estrogen related things. Don't need any meds for parathyroid removal just need to keep calcium levels up, if you are having tingling/itching on your face especially around the mouth your calcium levels are low. I had a really great doctor that spend a lot of time explaining everything to me and she made sure I understood what all the testing was for and what to expect after.

Kathy, my calcium runs around 8-9. I think that is an acceptable level. My PTH is still 124,BUN is high, and Creatinine is high. I also have a low ALP. Kathy, did you have all yours removed? I just had a phone consultation with my DO today and found out I have H pylori, parasites (I think it is my Lyme Babesia), and mold. So that adds to the mixture. My T3 has been low the last two times I had it checked. Have an endo appointment in Jan. to see if we can figure out some that puzzle.

I just had one removed the others were fine and the doc told me it was rare to have a recurrence with the ones left. I have had T3/T4 problems for years and have had to have the meds changed a few times. When the T3/T4 are right I feel so much better and can tell pretty quickly when they are off. Sorry to hear about the other issues I'm sure they are playing a role in how you are feeling. I do need to had extra calcium above what I take every day on occasion and I also have found that it helps to spend time in the sun, that's the vitamin D part of things.

I have hyperthyroidism too but my new doctor keeps it all under control with a female endocrine spray. Kem I hope you get well and can find relief to your issues.

I now feel human again after almost 10 years of this Lyme disease sucking the life out of me. If you can make a trip to FL my new doctor is an answer to my prayers for sure. Maybe, he could help you!

He put me on Stinging Nettle for the kidneys. Works great. I take 3 drops every 2 or 3 days. At first I took it daily but once the urinary tract infection got better I only use it once in a while. If the ankles start to swell I just stay off my feet and keep them elevated for a few days and watch my salt intake.

I had my thyroid removed due to big nodules- benign but big, in 2011. It took a while to adjust ...the issues are better now but I did the menopause thing along with it too. I wish my doc would have explained things better.
