I thought it would be fun to work on Christmas ornaments throughout the year enabling us to have enough ornaments to decorate our trees for Christmas 2015 and work on our Homespun Christmas Merit Badge :) I will add an ornament idea for each month (or if someone would want to substitute). I would love to hear some feedback and welcome you girls to join

I know I am off to a late start for January but here is an idea I found for January's Homespun Ornament:

Sharon - those are just soooo pretty! This year, I decorated our tree in all white accented with red berries everywhere. These would have been perfect adornments to accompany the rest! If I ever finish all my other projects this year (wink wink), I'm definitely going to try my hand at these! LOVE them! Thank your for sharing! Hugs - Nini

I don't put up a tree, but homespun ornaments sure would look festive in a basket or one of my cream & green enamel bowls. I'm in. Thanks Sharon for giving me something to work on throughout the year.

How lovely! I certainly will be trying my hand at this as well. I also participate in the ornament swap, which is another great way to get homemade ornaments on the tree!!!

I finished my ornament today. After Christmas I bought an ornament for 50 cents that looks like Sharon's picture, but not as nice. I do like that the ball had been sprayed painted a cork brown color. I took off the plastic pine twigs - will use rosemary next Christmas. Used hot glue gun to add buttons to the checked ribbons wrapped around ball. Picked up 3 little acorns from backyard & glued on top.

I don't expect the others to be this easy.

You're welcome girls, and thanks for joining in

Noreen, I saw that you live in Vermont and I am homesick for New England. Missing the snow!

Sara, There are certain ornaments that I hang throughout our home too!

Terra, I'm so glad that you are joining in :)

Catherine, thank you!

Shannon, I do hope that you will be able to join in :)

I look forward to seeing everyone's creations!

I think it would be fun if we could post pics as soon as we are finished with our monthly ornaments too :)

Sara, I must have just missed you posting :)

Wow you are fast!!! I'm not done with mine yet! Your ornament sounds so cute! I like the button and acorn idea. Another idea is making a snowman (or woman) head and embellish that :)

I have quite a few ideas I found online for ornaments and I don't think that they are very difficult.

Sharon, I love this idea. I have three daughters, and if I make 3 each month, that will be a very nice addition to their collections. Love it!!

YAY! I got it done, though I finished it today rather than in January... but still, it is done. Looking forward to finding out what the ornament challenge is for February! Here is my creation (the "sticks" are cinnamon sticks - YUM!)

Ladies, I am so so sorry for being so late!!!! Life has gotten in the way. Please accept my apologies.

I don't have a photo (but will continue to look for a pic) of February's Ornament. (Mine is not completed due to lending out some supplies and just getting them back).

~*^*~FEBRUARY'S ORNAMENT~*^*~

From MaryJane's Dec./Jan. 2011 issue, page 19:

"Family heirloom quilts that are fragile and worn (called cutter quilts) can be given new life and honored once a year when you turn them into Christmas ornaments. Simply cut a template of the shape you want, select an area of the quilt, paint it with diluted Mod Podge, and let it dry. (repeat until stiff)

Cut out your shape using the template and hang with a wire hook or string. Don't worry about the raw edges - the Mod Podge will keep them from fraying."

Not only can you create ornaments using cutter quilts, but try using doilies, lace, fabric, what have you :) And embellish if you like too! I am creating one from a piece of lace and another one from a flour sack :)

Shannon, I will send an e-mail back to you soon!!!! Thanks for checking in on me :)

Shannon so good to hear from you. The ornament sounds like fun. Will look around and see what I have to work with; will have to buy Mod Podge - hadn't had any in years.

I looked - no cutter quilt - but did come up with several quilted hot pads & oven mitts that will work. Now to decide which one to use.

Erin :) Look how slow I am! :)

Here is my February Ornament:

I used a flour sack for 2 of the ornaments and the third one I used an old doily and embellished it with a small yoyo and button. I tried using lace but it didn't work so good.
