Is starting difficult to learn? I have a bit of lace and a tiny baby cap that my grandmother tatted.I also have her tatting"shuttle"---I don't know what it is called. It is beautiful work, but I never learned.

I don't know if it is Marilyn. I received the book in a box of old work basket magazines from my mother-in-law and have never tatted. I have received some beautiful pieces from farm girls in the past though. I know a few ladies taught themselves. It is lovely, but I just don't need one more craft.

On Amazon I found several books on Tatting. Even one that came with a DVD. I have found that Tatting is really quite easy to learn. There are only two stitches and the needle tatting seems to be easier than using a shuttle. In the Mary Jane's Stitching Book there is a chapter on tatting with instructions for needle tatting. I have made a few of the necklaces and love them. I encourage others to give Tatting a try. It's easy and fun!
If TexasGran doesn't want your book, I would be interested. Although, I encourage TexasGran to get your book and try it.

I starting teaching myself to tat with a needle and found that it wasn't terribly difficult and I rather enjoyed it. Problem is TIME . . I just don't have time to pursue it. Same with crocheting and knitting. I tried to learn how to crochet and just drove myself crazy. If I were to choose to work further on either crochet or tatting, it would be tatting.

That is my problem, TIME. There is never enough of it. My enormous TO DO LIST was thrown out the window when school let out for summer. But I know When I do have fun time, I have so many projects waiting. Tatting May be one of the things I never learn to do.

Thank You for the book Julie. A surprise will be on it's way soon.

I struggle with time too. I have found that I can take quite a few project with me, but needle tatting isn't one of them. Mostly because of the needles. While listening to TV is when I seem to be able to work on needle arts. Yes, listening to TV. Every once in a while I will look at the TV and say to myself "Oh, that's what that looks like." lol I have learned to read during the commercials also. My sister says she doesn't know how I can keep track of the story line. It comes with practice and reading lots and lots of books.

One of my grandmothers tatted with a shuttle, but I never did learn the art.

That is going to be beautiful Brenda,
I have a book and dvd of tatting somewhere and a shuttle but I am like Marilyn no time to put into it.

Have a good day!

Tatting isn't hard, like some else mentioned it just takes time and when your beginning Patience is key! I learned to tatt about 15 years ago, it is the one craft I wander back to when I have had my fill of trying something else LOL
