I have a question! Do any of you use a hand crank grain mill to grind wheat to make breads, etc.????? I am not sure which of the ones I have seen on the internet would be the best to grind wheat for six people. I was hoping for some advice, from our farm girl sisterhood.

I have a hand crank Retsel grain grinder. It does a great job but I was surprised at how hard it is to manually grind grain. It is a true workout!! I would suggest that you look at an electric grinder if you need to make enough flour on a regular basis to feed six people.

Winnie, I was afraid of that, but need one for use where there is no electricity. I think I found one that can be hooked up to a grandkids bike some of the time and the novelty might get them to do the work. We will see. Thanks.

I have had a hand wheat grinder for many years. It is a corona with stones. I love it, but yes, it is a workout. I always had kids around who wanted to grind it though, so that helps. I also have an older whisper mill electric grinder, which is wonderful. I sorts enjoy the hand grinder, still though, even though the helpers have grown up now. You can adjust the stones to grind your own whole wheat hot cereal, one of my favorites.
