Dear Farmgirls, it is with a heavy heart that I am passing on this bad news about one of our sisters. Portia Troupe was killed in a car accident yesterday. She was an art enthusiast and a regular swapper and leader on our forum; she was especially supportive of me while I worked to get our mail art program off the ground. I am so very saddened by the news and I'm trying to figure out how we might honor her memory this month. I am sending a card to her husband Don, but I was also thinking it would be nice to send something a little more special that would reflect our condolences. Maybe a collage of pictures of the mail art she contributed?? Please flood my inbox with ideas and I will make it happen.

I hugged my family extra tight last night and told them how much I love them. Portia's death is a reminder that everything can change in one instant.

Krista, a beautiful idea to honor her somehow. She touched so many of our lives in many ways.

I am also sending a card to her husband and family. This was such a shock to all of us. I swapped many items with her. Let me see what I have that she sent me.

Portia Lynn Troupe of Johnson City, New York died on Monday, April 3, 2016.

She was born Feb. 29, 1952 in Shelbyville. Survivors include her husband Donald Troupe of Johnson City; son Greg H. Troupe, daughter Alexandria Troupe, both of Binghamton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law James P. and Corinne Troupe; and cousins.

She was saved at 15 and joined the Garrison Forks Baptist Church in Beech Grove. She was raised by her aunt and uncle Rex and Hazel Shelton and graduated from Central High School in 1970. She was a school teacher. Portia was teased her entire life for her size. As she often said "dynamite comes in small packages." She was a mother to all and a mentor to everyone, helping people regardless of the hour. She died as she lived, helping others. She was a member of the CrossPoint Community Church, Binghamton.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 16 at 3 p.m. at the CrossPoint Community Church, 1 Grand Blvd., Binghamton, New York. Rev. Marsh Sorber will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday at 2 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Flowers are appreciated or donations in her memory may be made to a Memorial Fund at the CrossPoint Community Church, 1 Grand Blvd., Binghamton NY 13905

Thanks, we felt that bouquet was more reflective of our farmgirl style and Portia herself. And thanks for your offer Aimee, MaryJanesFarm took care of it

I am just stunned and saddened. With all the art and creative cards that I have received from her over the past years, it feels like I know her. God's strength and Grace to her family during this time. I know she was received with open arms by Heaven and all the Angels.

Oh, this is so sad! I received a wonderful felt heart from Portia in one of the swaps- it's big and happy and I had told her it seemed like she had sent a big hug to me through the mail. I am sorry I am unable to get a copy of it sent off to you, though, Kristi, to add to your collage. Thank you for sharing the photo of the flowers you sent- they are beautiful.

Blessings to you on your life's journey.

Very sad news. Portia was a blessing to me, always so sweet and thoughtful. She will be missed.
