I have an antique sock knitting machine and would be interested in cranking a pair of socks to barter. My socks are tube socks - mock ribbed top and Kitchener stitched toes. I have several colors of acrylic yarns to choose from - small - medium or large sizes. Would love to hear some barter offers! We are from Idaho but temporarily transplanted to Fort Worth, Texas - brought my sock knitter to keep me company whilst hubby is at work!

Hi Becky, I would love to barter with you for two pair of large sized socks to give my granddaughters for Christmas. They both ride horses, so tube socks are good. Tell me what you are interested in getting in return. Do you have a camper trailer? Do you like cute tea towels , aprons, mug rugs, tea cozies, etc. Or.....

We just drove through Stephenville Sunday - to the Chicken House flea market. Quite a drive for us but fun. No camper trailer - what are the farm stick animals? Love aprons. I will post a picture of socks and also a pic of the yarns I have. I donate socks to the homeless here in Fort Worth. Last year when we were working here I donated 19 pair. I

Here are the current yarns - all except the hot pink and green make lightweight socks. I have to try to figure out which are acrylic - some are wool. I know for sure the two tweedy ones are acrylic. Really the main difference is that those with wool will need to be washed in cold water and laid flat to dry. I can only make adult socks on my machine. I can do 54 stitches or 72 stitches in diameter. I do have some more flexibility with the tension. This should be fun!http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/Snitz/Images/2016/05/

Farm stick animals are a stick horse, a donkey, bull, sheep or pig. They are the ones we usually see in rodeos. I also make zoo animals sometimes, elephant, giraffe, zebra. Do you like a bib apron or just one that ties around the waist to cover your lap? Tell me what you would like and my girls like the pink and turquoise blue colored yarn.

Hi all! I am planning to get everyone's socks made and sent out as soon as I can. I had a mastectomy about 2 1/2 months ago - everything is great - except when I went to radiation oncologist Friday she decided I have lymph edema and will need to go to a clinic to learn how to manage it - exercise, massage and get fitted for an arm sleeve. I am waiting for appointment - I will get back to work on socks as soon as I can - probably a week or two - thank you for understanding.

Becky, Hope you are doing well. After you have the other gals covered, I'd be interested in a pair or two. I could even mail you some cotton if you can do cotton. Also, I love the feel of bamboo yarn but do not know if there are reasons to not have socks made from it. If you have info, please enlighten me. Oh, btw, I am just down the road a bit from Ft Worth. Would be no problem to send you some yarn. Again, when you are feeling well and caught up, just let me know. {{HUGS}}

Wonderful!! I have been crocheting for a few months and tried my hand at relearning knitting as well and have a HUGE stash of acrylic yarns. It was only after I got started exchanging dishcloths that I learned acrylics are not great for that purpose. I ventured into cottons and bamboo and just love the feel!! I also picked up the yarn that they use for sock monkeys and thought I might try to crochet some socks.... haven't done it yet... but would love to make my own socks. It's a tactile thing!!

Ladies - Ihave finally finished 13 pair of socks with more on the way! I decided to post a pic of the ones I have finished with a brief description of size, yarn, etc. and let each of you who has already requested socks choose the pair you want. I have more than one of some pairs and also have additional yarn to make more in these colors. you have to understand that I buy cones of yarn - mostly on EBay and Etsy - some do not have the fiber content - so I do not always know that - I always recommend that the socks either be washed by hand or gentle, cold cycle - even when they are not wool and layed flat to dry. Most socks should fit between a 6 and 9 unless otherwise noted. My suggestion would be that if your socks don't fit please donate to a homeless person or a friend. If they do not fit or you do not like them - do not send me anything. So here goes:
1. These dark turquoise w/ navy thread are most likely cotton - they have a long cuff that can be folded - they are very soft and have been laundered.
2. These are probably the least stretchy - might be part cotton or wool - I would think a skinny size 6 or 7 foot. Long cuff that can be turned down or not.
3. Dark Green - wool - short hemmed top.
4. Hot pink - wool - these turned out pretty small in width - skinny foot - long cuff can be turned down to adjust length or worn up.
5. Light mint - acrylic - soft - probably the biggest of the socks- long cuff an be turned down or worn up
6. Marled navy and white acrylic - long cuff - can be turned down or worn up.
7. Turquoise wool - short cuff
8. Seahawks colors! Acrylic and wool yarns mixed together - long cuff can be worn up or turned down

Hi Becky,

I'd be interested in the largest pair not claimed yet. Although I don't have a very large shoe size, I need something wide or at least stretchy. You decide and let me know... also, what would you like in return?

Thanks,

Hi Becky,

I received the socks and they are lovely! I will send you some yarn as well. Lord knows I have lots of it here. I keep trying new things and experimenting with looms and both crocheting and knitting (not to mention the quilting and mail art I'm trying to revive!) so I should really share it! I'd love to see it used and loved rather than sit here in these bins that I'm filling and tripping over! I know that I don't have to sport knit because I stocked up on some of the more bulky ones when doing hats and scarves but if you can use some extra, I'll surely send.
