We love to use rosemary but have a hard time keeping it alive in the winter time. We bought this plant in a 3" pot in the late spring, repotted and let it live outside until fall when the temps started dropping. Rosemary doesn't survive cold winter weather. It is now in the house for the winter and I hope it does survive.
Anyway, I love it's lovely lavender colored blooms . . . thought I'd share a pic with you.

Beautiful.
I've had my large container rosemary going on ten years and have never seen it bloom. I keep it trimmed back so it won't out grow it's pot. It survives our winters and goes uncovered in ice and snow. We may see single digits but mostly our severe weather is in the teens and 20s.

I love rosemary also. I have to winter mone indoors too. I have never seen it bloom. Beautiful

My rosemary stays in the ground and over winters just fine here. But I have never had mine bloom either. CJ yours is beautiful, how neat yours blooms.

CeeJay the more I look at your rosemary it doesn't look like mine. Mine is bushier with shorter darker green leaves - like a low growing juniper. If I remember correctly mine was labeled 'garden rosemary'. It's the only variety I have seen locally. I think I have seen yours in seed catalogs. Do you remember what it's called?

I don't know the variety of what I have, Sara. I had one like it only larger last winter that bloomed, however, for some strange reason it just up and died. I tried to revive it but was unsuccessful. The leaves were all dried, so I harvested them, ground them up and have some great dried ground rosemary. I'm hoping this one doesn't do the same thing.

How gorgeous! We have a huge Rosemary bush (no problem over-wintering in zone 9b!), but I've never seen it bloom!

Oh Cj... around here, Rosemary, like Lavender ...grows crazy....
But here is what I have been told by the local gardeners around here... to not plant Rosemary plants up against the house... as it is flammable ...
Don't know how true this is...
I have seen some lovely 'hedges ' that are of pruned rosemary bushes...
(Makes great Topiary plants too)

Wahoo! I'm glad to hear it's surviving the winter so far. Wouldn't things be so different for us if we didn't get snow or such cold temperatures? It's crazy how things work.

I love Rosemary for cooking and for it's earthy fragrance. Your blooming bush is just beautiful too! There is a tale that the tiny blue flowers of the Rosemary bush in December are in synch with Advent where one of the favorite liturgical colors is that same deep sky blue. There are several references to Rosemary in old English country traditions and Christmas hymns.

You can also train your Rosemary into a Topiary.....
I miss having a Rosemary plant,,, I forgot to shelter mine and we got a nasty freeze and I lost mine along with some other plants..

Rosemary is the one herb I cannot use or have in the yard or house. I have a major allergy to it.....like I jump to stage 4 anaphalyxis if I eat it and start to have breathing problems if it is in the air. Weird facts about my life. LOL
However, it is beautiful in bloom! My mom used to have one on her porch (after I moved out!).

Oh CJ isn't it beautiful? My rosemary always seems to die before the season even ends but this time I bought one at the beginning of winter and placed it in a window with southern exposure and water it very little and now with spring knocking at the door it is actually sprouting new growth! I pray it blossoms as yours did! I've never seen one blossom!

Well my rosemary is doing very well in a south-facing window and had grown a lot. I do have to water it every other day as it dries out quickly. Dry climate here! I'm so glad it's surviving. When summer weather comes I'll move it back outside. Probably will need to repot it before too long!

CJ...I have never seen Rosemary Bloom before! Very Pretty Color!
I put too much Rosemary in something I made a couple years ago...and it immediately made me throw-up.
I guess I have a sensitivity to it. I love the smell though!

Hi CeeJay,
In addition to keeping it watered (but not too wet, just don't let it dry out), while it is indoors, mist it, or use a pebble tray to increase the humidity.

I have also heard to put a little fan on it when indoors cause it normally grows along hills that are by the ocean. I did that and I was getting mine to live indoors in the winter. I also misted it too, then one day my husband, put it in the other room cause I was not home and he wanted to fix something that was behind it and in 2 days it died. that was the longest I had been able to keep it in the winter.. Yours is wonderful, glad you are having good luck with it..!
