Please remember to "Subscribe" to this topic so you don't miss any important information.
This swap is for mini-aprons made with patriotic-theme in design or fabrics. When making aprons for your fellow swappers, please remember to make something that you would like to receive. We love embellishments - buttons, trims, pockets, lace, ruffles, etc, but they are not always necessary depending on the design of the apron. Future themes throughout the year will be Halloween, Christmas, and "Party" styles. Plan ahead, find fabrics in your stash, and join in when you can. Youu can always make some mini aprons ahead for these topics when you have spare time. NOTE: They do not all have to be the same - different is fun, too! Use up your scraps and be creative.
Please take a look at the cute aprons from a previous farmgirl mini-apron swap. Read the comments and you will see Grace's collection of mini-aprons here: http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/snitz/topic.asp?whichpage=0.84&TOPIC_ID=77791#915025
NOTE: There are patterns available for mini-apron ornaments - Simplicity 1957 and Simplicity 2748. There are also free crochet and other mini apron patterns on Pinterest. You can use these or design your own half-aprons or full bib-style aprons. Farmgirls LOVE embellishments!
For all you crocheters, out there, here is a cute adaptable apron some of you may like. I'm going to give it a try and make me one. LOL! http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/liquid-dish-soap-apron Look down the page. I love the red and white version.
and more: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/little-aprons http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/dishsoap-apron
and this looks like a great book of small crocheted aprons, though they are not mini. The cover says they are towels: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/annie-potter-presents-apron-strings-kitchen-towels
Sign-ups start now: March 24 Sign-ups end: Noon, Wednesday, April 12 Important! Mail out to Linda by: Friday, May 5
NOTE: Your aprons, postage and return envelope must arrive BEFORE May 10 so I can sort them, mail them back out, and you can get them before Memorial Day and then can get double use for Independence Day! This is because I leave for a 2-week vacation and want to get them out before I leave - or you all have to wait.
Here are the criteria: 1. You will make a mini apron - either half-apron or full bib-style apron - for each farmgirl who signs up (# depends on signups). Finished apron size is approx. 5" wide and 5-6" long depending on style (Note: my half aprons start at 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" and are gathered to a 5" waist) ... not including the ties... ties on each side should be about 6-8"(not incl.waistband) so the aprons can be tied onto an object for display. The bib aprons are about 6-1/2" to 7" long, not counting the neck strap. You might want to add a pocket and tuck a little note inside. You will be getting one of your mini-aprons back. Be sure to sign your mini-aprons. 2. You will send me your set of mini aprons. 3. You will also include a Self-addressed, stamped (with postage stamps) envelope with the same amount of postage as your envelope costs to mail, plus include $1.00 cash to cover the cost of mailing your mini aprons back to you. The extra dollar will cover cost of extra weight that different trims might add. NOTE: Depending on how embellished your aprons are compared to the others, postage could be quite a bit more. 4. I will divide up the mini aprons, and mail your mini aprons back to you.
I will list names of those who sign up and let you know the final total!
Let's have some fun with these!

Well Linda! I can't pass this one up! I love and respect our service men and women so much! I shall happily cut and sew each apron and each apron will represent someone I admire greatly and who has done an excellent service and given of themselves unselfishly for the service of our country!! SO, with each apron I will send a brief description of who and branch of service and what they did for our country! k?? So count me in on this swap!

Great idea, Dianna - I can't wait to see your aprons honorinng people you know in the service. Grace - Are you squeezing in another swap? LOL! Animals would be fun - we still have Halloween, Christmas, and Fancy Party aprons as themes. I guess we could SSSSSSSQQQQQQQQQUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZE in animals after this one. LOL!
Jana - let me think about bumping the date out - problem is, we've had a late onoe r two for the first two swaps, and if they are sent out late after the 12th, I may not get them in time to get them back to everyone before Memorial day. What does everyone think? And, Jana, could you possibly get them out sooner than the 12th? You've got over a month to make them ahead of the signup deadline.

Grace and I were thinking that Fancy/Party aprons could be a sheer fabric, or very frilly/girly, or whatever you might think of for fancy. I have found aprons in antique stores that are made of such thin, sheer fabric that they couldn't possibly have protected any clothes under them. LOL! I remember pictures of ladies wearing sheer aprons when they were hostessing a party or event. So - practically anything goes.

Shannon, I have a few of the sheer chiffon type 'hostess 'aprons in my collection... satins work well too for the Party Aprons.... I will have fun blinging that one up! oh... you could do a double layer mini.. the under layer in a satin or sateen and the uber fine tulle netting for the top layer and metallic ric rac or which I have a gazillion yards of in gold and silver and I would be happy to share with anyone who needs a couple of yards.

Love the Starbucks Frappacinos, Grace. LOL!
And I can hardly wait to see everyone's fancy party aprons. But that swap will be later. This one is for Patriotic fabrics.
