I had to let out a groan even as I typed the Subject line . . . 
I have seen some bad weather in my life, but I am fairly sure that the volume of rain and storms we have had here is SW PA this past week is the worst ever. We here in Port Vue, PA had over 5" of rain over a combined 5 days in 3 separate ridiculously strong storms. Included in those storms, up to 60 mph winds, hail and lightning. The first 3 storms last Tuesday dumped 3" in about two hours and what made is worse was that we had not had any rain for a few weeks before - dry ground (Ugh!)
Port Vue sits on a mountain about 15 miles outside of Pittsburgh. The very few flat streets we have flash flooded up to car roof height in a matter of 1-2 minutes. Almost everyone here, except in rare circumstances, have had repeatedly flooded basements and garages. One home that sits at the very lowest point of the town was submerged 7 feet because the rest of the town drained to that one home! The town right next to us (my parent's town), was under a state of emergency for several days with no power. Roads are buckling, hillsides collapsing, trees are coming down every day . . .it is ridiculous! A co-worker who lives in the same town as me - her roof is collapsing from the volume and severity/force of the rain. Of course, home owner's insurance won't pay anyone for anything! Because we live on a mountain, no one carries flood insurance (a sad lesson learned!)
I, myself, have been dealing with the repeated basement and garage flooding, but luckily, I live where both neighbor's property is lower than ours (well, lucky for us, both not for them). We had 3" of water last Tuesday - dealt with. A second wave of 1 3/4" on Wednesday - dealt with. A break on Thursday, but a new 1 3/4" on Friday. Saturday - another break, then another 1" yesterday (Sunday). Today, we are under yet more severe storm warnings, so I am anticipating at least another 1 1/2" or more today.
For the record, my poor husband hasn't been much help - his Boss decided to up and quit 2 weeks ago and my husband is now doing not only his job, but also his bosses' job at the busiest and worst possible time of the year. He has been stuck working 15-16 hour days, gets home in time to eat dinner, repeatedly apologize for not being here to help and go to bed. (Hence the when it rains it pours . . .)
However, throughout all of this, I am trying to stay positive and keep a smile on my face - no one has been injured or killed and material things can be replaced. Mother Nature cannot be controlled and there are people who are experiencing way worse issues/situations than me. I know it may sound strange, but joining the Sisterhood when I did (a few weeks ago) is actually helping me keep my sanity - I am working on merit badges requirements in what time I have between work and water to help alleviate my frustration right now . . I guess you could say Merit Badge Therapy!

Cyndie, it sounds so discouraging and messy! Our sump pump is working nonstop. I'm not going to like the next electric bill. Between the sump pump and dehumidifier... When I'm overstressed I keep repeating "this too shall pass". One day at a time... (((hug)))

Thank you Christine and Jana. We just got hit with yet another storm this evening . . . with more expected this week. I am truly taking to heart "this, too, shall pass".
I had to actually smile today though . . . a beautiful Double Rainbow! I am taking this as a sign of good things to come!

Because they HAD to name it "Tropical Storm Cindy" . . .
It has been sans rain for two blessed days . . . but the humidity is so thick, you can chew it. We are supposed to get up to 2" tomorrow from the tail end of Cindy, but I am praying that dies out.
Got an even worse "kick" to the caboose today other than the recent rain . . . I don't gamble or play the lottery . . . and today, my Sister Number came up on the "Pick 4" - straight - 7407. The rainbow gave me the sign, I didn't listen to it!  That would have been $5000 towards a sump pump and waterproofing . . .

It's is a shame that we didn't build canals like the Romans. We here in So. Cal. Could use a little more water and Pa. a little less.
