Just wondering if any of you farmgirls are dealing with adrenal fatigue. If you're willing to share . . . your symptoms, how long it's been, what your doctor says, treatment of any kind.

Thanks, in advance, for anything you share. If you prefer not to post here, you could send me an email.

Thanks!
CJ

Stinging nettle infusion (1ounce dried herb to one quart canning jar, fill to the top with boiling water steep 4 hours or over night, strain and refrigerate and drink.) this is superior for adrenal fatigue.

Thanks Kelly,
Don't know, for sure, if that's part of what I'm dealing with, but sure seems like it might be.

How much do you drink per day?

P.S. Kelly . . . how is this different from nettle tea?

Do you use herbal supplements as well?
Thanks!

I drink a quart a day. The difference in the amount of herb in a tea bag to a measured ounce that goes into an infusion. Kind of like how much nutrition in a teaspoon of carrots versus a measured cup of carrots. Easy way to visualize.
I do add a few tablespoons of dried mint to mine. Just makes it more palatable for me. But. Certainly is not necessary.

CJ - adrenal fatigue is something I deal with in a HUGE way! Not only do I have issues with that, but I now only have one adrenal gland (the other was removed at Johns Hopkins due to a mass on it). I can attest to the benefits of nettle infusions. There are also herbal supplements that I have found beneficial, including an adaptogenic (I was using astragalus, but with being pregnant I am using ashwaganda), Rhodiola, and Cordyceps. I'm also taking cod liver oil. Staying off caffeine (which I'm horrible about right now with everything going on in my life right now) and getting up at a decent time and going to bed at a decent time have also been key. You had asked about symptoms... but mine are pretty severe due to only having one... if you want a list still, let me know and I'll send it to you... but essentially, your adrenal gland is basically the brain of your endocrine system, so it affects all the rest of your hormones and many of your organs.

Thanks Kelly and Shannon!
As I mentioned, I'm not sure this is what I'm dealing with but in doing research it seems very possible. I've been seeking medical advice and treatment and just not getting anywhere much with it. Looking back at things just prior to starting to feel awful . . . TONS and TONS of stress on my entire body, mind and spirit . . . just for starters!

Anyone using holy basil?

Thanks again! Appreciate your continued prayers as well!

A real foods diet is extremely important in my opinion.... grass-fed beef, pastured poultry, avoid antibiotic and hormone treated meats, avoid refined sugar and unnatural fats. We only use EVOO, coconut oil, and tallow or lard that I render, along with avocado oil if I'm stir-frying. We also avoid gluten, with the exception of einkorn flour, though I usually only use that in sourdough baking. Fruits and veggies are organic whenever possible and I personally have to avoid cow milk. My understanding is that food allergies or intolerances can cause a lot of stress on your adrenal glands. I did the IgG food allergy testing from Life Extensions to figure out what I was actually sensitive to... this was a difficult transition for me, but has helped tremendously!

An endocrinologist was the one that found the mass on my left adrenal gland and started me down the path to regaining my health.... though taking that adrenal gland out caused its own issues, it did help with the issues the mass was causing. Unfortunately i have found that most medical professionals aren't knowledgeable when it comes to the adrenal glands and their function, other than wanting to put you on a lot of other medications that have there own side effects... I've had to do a lot of my own research, bring it with me to appointments, and then talk to my provider about it. Thankfully the doctor I had in South Carolina was great to work with... still trying to get that type of relationship with the doctor here.

I do agree on a grass fed and organic diet. Also whole milks and milk products. I would be very cautions tho about taking supplements. They have in many cases been proven worse to take. Real food, probiotics, herbs in cooking or salads is far better than in pill format, and drinking infusions.

Good point about the supplements, Kelly! Sadly I have to supplement right now, with only having one, until the one I have is able to strengthen. Otherwise there is too much demand on it and my various other systems start to shut down.

Didn't you start growing nettles??? I am interested in figuring out how to do that here... I may need to do it indoors, but need to look into it more! Wish we lived closer so I could come over and learn from you!!!! <3

Thank you girls! Very helpful information.

I'm learning a lot and trying to avoid things that bring other problems. I have a really good diet and live in a healthy environment. I'm pretty convinced that the situations of serious stress, several things at the same time layered on each other (details of which I'll not get into) over many, many years, year after year, have taken its toll on me and now I'm trying to recover. No medical professional has given me a diagnosis of "adrenal fatigue" but I'm no dummy!

I'm also scheduled for tests to evaluate for Meniere's disease because I have some symptoms that point to that but, again, nothing definitive yet.

I'm just TIRED!!! It's been such a long haul and exhausting battle.
Thanks again!
CJ

Yes I do grow them but they need much more water than my area of Texas ever gets. I water regularly to keep garden alive but it is not quite enough for the large quantity we drink of nettle. It's great cooked as greens or added to stews or soups. So I use my fresh that way. We have a lot of bull nettle here but it does not have all the same medicinal qualities of stinging nettle, I really do want to look into trying some soon just to see what it does do. Stinging nettle might grow great for you, not sure tho.
Sure hope both you and CJ can get some much needed relief and soon.

We have stinging nettle that grows in the mountains ... and it is stinging! I've been in it more than once and it's PAINFUL!
It grows in Scotland too . . . same result.
OUCH!
CJ

I suppose I could harvest some from the mountains but I'm not sure I want to go to all that trouble and possibly get the ill effect on my skin. :P

Yes it does sting. However that is actually good if you have painful Arthritic knees. Really good therapy. Saves the honey bees people use for the same purpose. Poor bees, when stining nettle can be very rampant where it likes growing. I would love to have it grow wild here. Only because it's hard to grow in my dry climate. If you can manage to harvest, it would surely save money.

Our climate is dry as well, but it seems to do well at altitudes above 8500 feet. I don't know if anyone is purposely growing it in gardens etc. Of course the stuff I got into accidentally in Scotland was NOT high altitude NOR dry climate, but it stung the same!

I think there is a significant "wrinkle" in me being able to use nettle leaf. In my research it says that it can lower blood pressure and cautions against use if you have low blood pressure. I do . . . it's consistently in "low normal" range and I have a low pulse rate.
Soooooooo . . . I'm rethinking this!

I have had some adrenal issues recently. My cortisol levels were too low so my dr. (endocrinologist) prescribed steroids--which i took for three weeks, then stopped. They helped increase my strength (i had been feeling physically weak, like when you have the flu) but they decreased my mood and i already suffer from depression so i stopped them. My cortisol levels are borderline. I am also dealing with extreme fatigue and tiredness. I am doing a home sleep study this weekend to see if I have sleep apnea---there is more than one kind. There is central sleep apnea, in which your brain "forgets" to tell your body to keep breathing as you sleep...last night was the first night of the study and i will do it tonight and tomorrow. The maybe I will know something. I have extreme tiredness during the day and it is making it difficult for me to work. I have also extreme brain fog, forgetfulness, sometimes my vision gets blurry and I am extremely sensitive to light. I am going to have my house tested for black mold, as I am highly allergic to mold and the mycotoxins in certain molds can cause all sorts of issues. And the mold doesn't have to be black in color to be black mold. I have a pot of stinging nettle on my front porch and I recently made nettle soup. It is also possible I might have a type of narcolepsy. Narcolepsy is different than what most people believe. It can cause extreme tiredness because narcoleptics get poor quality sleep. I usually sleep about 10 hours a day, and more on the weekends, and I am still tired. I take lots of naps, and sometimes i won't drive because I can get so tired that I experience "microsleeps". I have seen four specialists and they still don't know what is wrong. I called off work yesterday (covered under FMLA) because I was having unusual cognitive symptoms. Don't want to go into it.I hate not being taken seriously by my doctors, and I hate having to do all the research myself. Thank God for the internet. All I know is, I feel exhausted most of the time and I don't know why. It is very frustrating, so I understand how you feel, C.J. I have never been sick like this before, and it has been going on since last December. Started off as a cold, then bronchitis, then my asthma got bad, then allergies got bad, then pneumonia---finally after four months I was able to breathe normally, but I have been exhausted ever since. Yet they still expect me to work 8 hours a day, a job where I am constantly on my feet, walking around. Maybe it's a good thing, if I had a desk job, I would probably fall asleep. I have read that almost undetectable damage to the brain stem can cause central sleep apnea, and I have been taking psychiatric meds. for over thirty years, and these meds. can cause damage long term. Infections can also cause damage to the brain stem. I sometimes feel a heaviness in the front of my brain---when you are exhausted, it mainly affects the frontal lobe of the brain. It also reduces cortisol levels, and it is common in people who suffer from depression who are also very ambitious. All of which describe me. Anyway, I hope you get some answers, C.J. E-mail me if you want.

Hi sisters, I can relate to your frustrations of not being able to figure out what is wrong health wise. I kept researching and just knew something was not quite right. I finally did some genetic testing and uncovered a key component that was amiss. I took the MTHFR Genetic Test and there are two components to this. You can read in depth about it online. In a nutshell iI have the C677T anomaly in which my body is unable to break down and utilize folic acid. This causes a build up of homocysteine and can cause heart issues and other problems. Lots of breads, baked goods, cereals, and pastas are enriched with folic acid. Folic acid is in many multi-vitamins too. When you have this anomaly the B vitamins are usually low and are necessary to carry along and utilize folate. In learning about this I could see many past health issues related to this. After presenting my results to my doctor I now take an Rx Foltanx which is natural folate and three essential B vitamins. In just four days my fatigue started to lift and I had my energy back and my weak, flulike fibromyalgia symptoms started to improve. I am on my second month now and every week am feeling better. I will have to stay away from folic acid for life and supplement with natural folate for life. It is considered a medical food so insurance doesn't cover it, but it is the best $24 I spend. Crazy that I had to be the one to initiate this test, especially since it is believed that 40 percent of the population carry this genetic anomaly. No wonder I was so ill in my pregnancy taking folic acid in the prenatal vitamins. It is essential in pregnancy to get enough folic acid to avoid serious defects In the development of the baby. Sorry this is long winded, but my experience of being so ill over the last 4 decades has led me to believe when physicians cant seem to figure it out just go for genetic testing. You may discover something. I also learned that since my enzyme pathway is compromised and doesn't work well to stay away from meds that work using that pathway. I wish you all the best in your continued efforts to find answers to your symptoms. I utilized Life Extension to order genetic tests when they had a 50 percent off sale. Take care!! Annie

And again, food allergies can wreck havoc on so many systems. I am allergic to aspirin, it has salicylate in it. So I researched a salysilate free diet. And I also stopped using many personal care products that have salisylates in them. I now use products from Cleure.com free of many chemicals. Since I get histamine headaches I modified diet once again to avoid histamine too. My allergy testing showed so many foods I am allergic to. It took five years and three specialists to figure out I had oral allergy syndrome. Severe headaches, fatigue, etc. one example of OAS is if you are allergic to ragweed and eat a food in the ragweed family such as cantalope your body thinks you are in a ragweed field. It's the protein it can't differentiate. All plants, bushes, trees have food groups tied to them. Look up oral allergy syndrome on the Internet if you have serious food allergies. My headaches went from 18 a month to one or two every quarter. I share this personal medical information just in case one of you is suffering and just maybe it will be useful to one of you. I learned that since I am very allergic to latex not to eat avocados, kiwi, bananas or coconut. Much improved because of these little clues. Carry on sisters, don't give up! Annie
