Oh my. Sad story ahead. I have been thinking about this poor lady all week.

In 2015, when I was becoming a Master Gardener, this cute little junk-tique shop opened up next door to the extension. I picked up cute stuff here and there when I was in the MG office, like the tin signs that grace my laundry room.

The people that own it are super nice. There are three, an elderly lady who always sits by the door in a swivel chair, and the friendliest couple - a husband and wife. Both are just so nice and always chat me up when I stop by.

They moved the store from next to the extension office to my hometown maybe a year ago. My dd and I have popped in here and there. The couple always called me when a vintage sewing machine would come in, giving me "first dibs". Eventually they would send photos, asking me what would be a good price to sell whatever machine it was, I became their "vsm expert".

I haven't been in all summer, busy with other things. Noticed the store was closed for awhile. Popped in with my best friend after we had lunch on Saturday, as she had never been and was wanting to go in.

The swivel chair was empty. A man I'd never seen before greeted me, telling me everything was 50% off and the store was closing. Shocked, I looked over to the lady I did know. She immediately burst into tears.

The elderly lady was her mother. She died last week during a routine MRI. From what I understand she had heart failure after getting panicked during the MRI. But her husband wasn't in the store either - he passed away the SAME week. He went to trim some shrubs and was attacked by wasps, had an allergic reaction and died!

The other man in the store was also a customer, a regular who had called, heard the story and came to help her. She told him she has no family to speak of, they were her family. Her plan is to sell everytthing off and what's left get a liquidator. This all happened last week. She bawled her poor eyes out every time a regular customer walked in.

I must've hugged her a hundred times. I don't even remember her first name, but I am so shocked they are both gone. Her husband's name I remember, but only knew his first name. Still, I haven't been able to get her off my mind all week. No one deserves that much pain! How awful to lose her entire family, (no kids) in all at once.

I've been praying for her, but wish there was something more I could do. My heart breaks for her.

You just never know what's going to happen. Life can change in a second.

Nicole

Gosh, Nicole, what a tragic story and series of events! You are so right in that one never knows what can happen. I am sorry to hear about all of this and my heart goes out to the friend who is now trying to close down the store. Truly heartbreaking.

I know, right? She is basically a stranger, but Gosh, I feel awful for her. The shop has been closed again all week. I wonder if she opened last weekend just not knowing what to do. I wish there was more I could do for her, but I don't know her well.

Such a tragic situation. Keeping her in prayer. But by the grace of God go we! She needs a divine intervention to give her peace and comfort.
