Does any one know if there is a system to cutting a curvy line around a gourd so it will meet. I would like to put two small hinges on the back side so it will open and close. I want a wavy line that will look nice. I tried to search the internet, I could find examples but no directions besides use a fine saw.

Thank you,

Would a dremel tool, spiral saw or router work? You could draw a curvy line and cut it with the rotating bit. A wire saw might work too if you want to cut both sides with the same contour.

Hello,

My problem is not the cutting it is the drawing of the wavy line that would be even and not look too bunchy and meet after it went around the gourd. I have a jig saw with a fine blade that cuts nicely. I have practiced on another gourd to find the right blade.

It'd be nice if there was a tool that you could use to stitch a wavy line around the gourd, but I can't think of a tool that would work.

How about using a piece of flexible wire that holds its shape - like florists wire or solid copper wire - to form a shape you like for the design and then trace the line onto the gourd?
