Has anyone made homemade soap? My mom used to make it and I am about out of what I had gotten from her. I want to start with something very easy. I have never worked with lye before.

Hi Lori, It has been years but I did make soap and candles a few times. For soap making I used melt and pour blocks and added my choice of essential oils, herbs and colors. I think I might make some again soon. I never made soap with lye. I was a little nervous about using caustic chemicals.
Just made 2 batches with my neighbor last Saturday. I make a cold process soap. Get temps the same for lye and oils and it comes together very quickly.
I've been making soap for my extended family for years. I also make cold process soap.. It's not that difficult If you're good at math and not afraid of dealing with lye. I can't stop making it because my husband says he never wants to use store bought soap again :-)

Nancy, I watched that video. It looks super easy to make. I have always been interested in trying to make soap, and seeing how easy it was, I definitely want to try it!
Lori, I'm curious which technique you will use. Let me know how it turns out!
Thanks for the info girls. I have not watched a video on soap making yet but I think it would be a good idea. I don't like using soap from the stores and buying homemade soap is so expensive. When things settle down here with my sister and her husband (cancer) I will try some out.
