Ladies---I am so messy when I make cookies. Since hubby has retired I am having to bake loads of them for him and the donkeys. How do I stop the flour from flying all over everything? What am I doing wrong---or does this happen to everyone. I know one thing---cooking do get tedious. But cookie hungry donkeys and hubby keep me baking. Any tips will help---I hate to clean a flour dusted kitchen.

Barbara I'm messy too when I get around to baking once or twice a year. A baker I'm not. I either line the counter with wax paper or a large flour sack kitchen towel. The kitchen towel I take outside and shake off the flour. Saying all that I still have to sweep the floor.

Sara---if you are messy too---then maybe there is no hope for me. LOL> I am cooking three times a day now since hubby retired---dishes and more dishes and no dish washer for me. Always read about your dear sweet Annie. Dogs are such great friends. God bless you Sara---you are a dear, sweet and wise lady. I guess I will continue with my flour dust.

Barbara you need to come to an agreement with your newly retired fella. If one cooks, the other cleans. It has worked for us and I get free time after slaving over the stove.
That said, I've had to relax and let him clean "his way."
If you are making rolled cookies, there is no help for it, you will make a mess. Cookies are worth it though.

Oh my. Lol. If your using a mixer slow it down. A turn or two and stop, till flour is a bit incorporated. Or try cake that dough is not as stiff. Lol

Oh Sara, I'm with you! I only baked cookies once a year at Christmas, for my stepfather, Tasha Tudors sugar cookies.
He passed away Dec 11, so I don't even know if I will bake at all!
And Barbara, the flour was everywhere, so you are definitely not alone on that front.
Lucky hubby and donkeys LOL!
