Where oh where has May gone! Wow this year is zipping by.
June IS Dairy Month!
So I would love to join your swap this year.

Heather, every time you post pictures of your moo cows...It makes me miss those huge black and white lovely ladies I spent 3 and 1/2 years with.
You know how God shows you people and things before they come about...when our son was about two, we went to the Ft. Worth stock show. As we made our way through the displays and critters we came upon some cows that were taller than me...I'm 5' 7", they scared me. Low and behold 14 years later I got to know, love and admire 100 of those giant sized beauties. And I was never scared!

You have a wonderful job!

Welcome everyone. I'm so glad to have so many joining!!!

Marilyn - what kind of cows did you have? I'm guessing Holsteins but there are a bunch of beef breeds I'm not familiar with. We have mostly holsteins (a lot of them are red and whites) and a couple jerseys. The jerseys are much smaller but they have huge attitudes to make up for it LOL!!

This one is Daisy.

While I was busy tryin to get a good picture of Daisy Pippa decided the camera looked tasty:

Yes, we had holsteins. My husband bought two jersey bulls. They always came up last, always snorting as it disagreeing over who was the best!
I will say that I learned so much from those big girls, and everything connected to or with them.
My husband bought our heifers from Wisconsin. They were trucked to Texas and arrived during the day while I was at school. My husband said they were Hot and Tired so no sooner than their feet hit that pasture they ran to our newly built stock tank...and everyone of them went for a dip! All 100... all at the same time!
One of my favorite memories is how the whole herd made over every new born calf. They acted just like us! Fun times. But lots of hard work.

Heather,
I am not sure I have ever seen a red and white Holstein. Any chance you could share a photo with us?
Thanks

Winnie the strawberry rhubarb is soooo tasty. I also wanted to bring home the juneberry and the chokecherry but thought 5 containers of ice cream was a bit much. But I am pretty sure the next trip to town they will be coming home with. me.

While you ladies are passing around the strawberry rhubarb I'm going to run off with the black licorice!!! That sounds so yummy to me. I've never seen it as an icecream flavor before. It's too bad that it's impossible to ship icecream LOL!!

Terri - the first picture is one of our red and whites. Her name is Rose. Here's a couple more pictures:

The extra tall one is our steer.

The red hair color is a recessive trait so a black cow can carry the red gene and when bred to a red bull have a red calf. According to my grandpa "back in the day" the red ones were "taken care of" before anyone could see them but now they're given their own shows and are considered by most to be special :)

That little baby is adorable.
My son raises Mexican long horned cattle.
On Sunday when they came to have some Sunday dinner with us, they did not tarry. When we asked where they were going, They said it was cattle moving day. So about ten minutes later there They came.
I had to go shut the two gates that lead to our driveway. The first bunch went by so nicely, the second bunch wanted to stop for a snack. The third bunch came into our driveway and as I started out to shoo them away...suddenly my cowboy son appeared on his modern horse...the four wheeler. He is a building contractor/team roper.
He bought some mamma cows because it was hard to find roping steers to practice with. The past two years he has culled so many. I think most of his older cows are gone.
When they have babies they are quite small. No bigger than a little dog and so cute. I noticed the other day several red babies and a black and white one. It has been a few years since he had any pretty rugs. Do you have a pretty cow hide rug? We don't. But the city slickers sure like them. We track in way too much dirt etc.

Our neighbor was so impressed with no calving issues at birth...he wanted some too. Two years ago he sold most of his. He is too old to care for them, and my son does not have time anymore.
