Hey ladies I am almost finished with my cross stitch, but noticed these white lines on the pattern next to the “W”s. They go straight up , down and sideways from the groups of “W”s. Are these straight stitches? What are they and what do I do?

They are probably outline stitches, but I'm not sure. On the picture of what you are doing can you see an outline of a figure?

If this is a kit with a picture, look at that. Check the pattern too. I'm not certain what I am looking at.

It didn't come with any instructions. Just a colored paper, a white paper (that I have used purple highlighter on to mark off what I have done), and the thread numbers. I purchased it off Etsy and then just printed out all the pdf. The pictures aren't loading right now. Let me keep trying.

They look like straight stitches.

From the picture they look like large crosses over the stars to make them look as if they are shining. Try that.

I looked up the design and found the Artist's Name and I would email her and ask her what the lines mean. She says that she usually answers within 6 hours.
Good Luck and Merry Christmas,

Krista,, the 'white' lines are known as 'outline' stitches.. in this case it is to accent the "W" white stitches to give a 'glow' look..

Outline stitches are used to give definition , ex: on a face,, the lines could be used to outline and give definition to the eye.

Wow, I am impressed,, that is quite the undertaking,, this pattern for a X-stitcher newbie... Love it and your for your 'Show NO Fear" attitude!

I use a Staedtler either pink or blue dry pencil to mark my charts. They are easy to see through,

Well Grace I am impressed you emailed the designer and got that information. I hope you enjoy working the pattern Krista. Would love to see your finished photo.

I agree that it is calling for outline stitches.

Oh my gosh you guys are amazing!! Thank you all so much for your help! I just searched how to do that stitch on YouTube. It seems pretty simple. I will be giving it a try today. I know I have more questions as I am finishing this up but I don’t want to get to far ahead of myself lol!

Grace, thank you for your compliment. Really means a lot to me. I always want to outdo myself lol. This pattern has kicked my tush but I will finish!

Thanks for the highlighter tip. I can still see the symbol under my purple but a lighter color will definitely be better next time.

Denise, I will definitely be sharing a picture soon. Especially since I have more questions!
