I'm reading "The Book of Awesome" for a merit badge. I thought it would be fun and uplifting to start a similar post here where we can all share those little things that we find wonderful.

Two of my most wonderful things on the farm are seeing a newborn calf and the smell of fresh cut hay.

What little things do you enjoy?

I think THIS is wonderful, my friend!!!

Wonderful things in my world include:

The sound of birds chirping on the first warm morning after winter...

My husband's smile and laughter...

When my dog, Bella, cuddles up next to me out of the blue and puts her head on my lap...

Hugs from my foster granddaughter...and her giggles...

Receiving an unexpected phone call or text from one of the kids in my life...

Sharing memories over pictures with loved ones...

When I call my Mom and she says, "Ok. I just sat down to call you!"

The smell of fresh, clean soil after rain...

Water dripping from icicles and running under the snow like a river...

Finding tulips poking through the snow!

A farmgirl hug in the mail... always, without question, arriving at the perfect time...

Love you, sister! God bless you for pointing out and making us think about the wonderful!

Hugs -

Nini

On this cold yet sunny day I am enjoying swapping out my winter decor my spring one. I also took a brisk walk on the paths by a lake near me.
Happy March to everyone!

Nini, those are some wonderful ones!

One of the things I find wonderful is when one of my kids surprises me with something new that they learned. I enjoy watching them absorb so much around them.

I find it wonderful when the little birds return to my yard after the cold winter. Some have returned this week and I made sure to get them some bird seeds.

I find it wonderful seeing the days lasting longer meaning warmer days are coming.

Dawn, we too, had a cold but sunny morning this morning, temps are warming up a tad bit, birds are chirping. I actually felt myself being able to breath this morning on our walk w/ the pup... clear blue skies, sunshine, fresh brisk air, alone time w/ the hubs... was most cherished this morning.

An addition something wonderful in our lives: Our sweet and wonderful neighbor man, WWII, vietnam, korea vet turned 95 yesterday! We took him balloons and birthday cake - made his day. I love seeing how the simple joys in life bring a genuine smile to someone and warms their heart. For he too, has warmed ours in so many ways. We're grateful for this man, his heart and the history he's seen, been part of, protected and shared with us.

Being with my family hubby Tom and Son Kent. This includes our 3 Doxies and our 2 German Shepard Dogs. All senior dogs but oh how I love them all.

And the Beach and Ocean. I am very happy to be in Oregon living with near the Pacific Ocean. I can go anytime I want and walk the beach.

What I find wonderful is how a flat piece of fabric can transform into a 3 dimensional object or piece of clothing. I feel like a magician!

I have to totally agree with Heather on this one! Calves and fresh cut hay. Our first calving came 2 weeks early this year. Twins, a boy and a girl. The boy being second and a touch smaller had trouble sucking for more then a few times. At day three he finally latched on and has not stopped. lol Such a wonderful site to see him figure out how to get a meal anytime he wants, instead of waiting for a bottle. I still stand in awe and watch him eat.

Great topic Heather.
Some of the wonderful things in my life:
My husband
My children and grandchildren
Spring-feeling the sunshine on my face and seeing the new buds bursting out all over
Friends-in person or online, both add so much richness to my life
Baby chicks
Tulips
A fresh cup of coffee or tea, a good book and sitting by the fireplace enjoying a quiet moment.

A little rain can straighten a flower stem. A little love can change a life.

You've inspired me to get the book and read it Heather! I love good 'stuff like that! Thats why I keep watching Littlest Big Farm! I love their story! Thanks for sharing!

My wonderful moments are too many to name, but a few are when my 16 yr old comes over to give me a big hug,, picks me up off the ground as if I'm nothing and holds me while I giggle and say put me down!!,or I walk over to the beaver lodge and hear them grunting and cooing inside, the return if the purple martins and their incessant chatter, my sweet kidabear lying across my lap in the evenings before bed....ahhh, so much that makes me smile joyfully and thankfully. I raise my eyes to my Father and say thank You for these wonderful moments!

What wonderful things everyone is listing!!! I'm glad you're all joining in!!

How about a warm cookie fresh out of the oven with an ice cold glass of milk!
Or a thick slice of warm homemade bread with butter melting on it.

DEFINITELY warm bread and warm cookies!

The smell of my Grandma's pot roast on the stove when we come in from the snow.

The sound and lights of a crackling fire.

The smell of snow in the air - right before it starts to fall.

Finding the first fruits on the vine.

Dawn... and sunset!

That rare, reverent, peaceful, still silence that comes into our lives only once in a great while... kinda like Sundays used to hold... as if God is sitting or standing right there next to you.

Sleeping in and wearing jammies all day.

Fresh air coming through the windows and blowing the curtains gently to and fro.

Thunder in the distance...and the lightning! OH, the LIGHTNING!

Warm boots...

The smell of a baby's head as he or she gently sleeps at your breast, and feeling his or her precious little heartbeat against your own.

The sound of giggles in the middle of church (a pastor once told me that was his favorite sound in the world!).

Midnight Mass by candle light.

SLEDDING!

Singing and dancing in the rain - and not caring who sees or hears!

Sunlight filtering down through the clouds in bright, beautiful beams.

Rainbows.

A clean house.

Hot chocolate with whipped cream and jimmies and a cherry on top!

Popsicles. Especially bomb pops.

Seeing the red, white and blue flag flying... anywhere.

Just sitting still with an elderly loved one, holding his or her hand... and knowing... and feeling the love.

Knowing I am loved, not just by family and friends, but by God Himself.

Being alive.

Hugs and love -

Nini

Lol! Ooohmygosh, Heather! Slipped into my New England upbringing there for a sec - I'm sorry! Jimmies are simply sprinkles! Lol. And yes, if you haven't topped your hot chocolate's whipped cream with them, you ARE missing out - they make drinking it just that much more of a celebration! ;)

Hot coffee in front of a warm fire on a cold day, which is pretty rare here in Florida. Added to that list, is homemade turkey soup from the Thanksgiving turkey. It smells so good simmering on the stove on the weekend after the big feast day.

I can't believe I forgot to mention a bubble bath! That's always a wonderful thing for me :)

Nini - I have not had Jimmies on my hot chocolate. I'll have to try it. Any idea why they're called Jimmies?

Dianna - I'm going to have to check - I think I have that DVD. Another one you might really like is called "Faith like Potatoes"

The first bee of the season!

The first of the garden planting done!

As far as I know, "jimmies" were named after James Bartholomew, the man who ran the first sprinkle-making machine at Brigham's Ice Cream where they were invented in the 1930's. They were, after all, considered to be "Jimmy's." The name just stuck. LOL. That's all I ever knew them as. Whenever we go to Dairy Queen, I have to remember to call them "sprinkles," or else I get the craziest look from people at the counter! LOL. But they will always be "jimmies" to me!

Here is an article from Boston.com that kind of shows that the beliefs concerning the origins of the name "jimmies" is varied and it addresses the completely erroneous assumption by some that the name constitutes a racist slur:

http://archive.boston.com/bostonglobe/ideas/articles/2011/03/13/the_jimmies_story/

Pretty interesting stuff!

Interesting history. Around here they are called sprinkles. In my family we always called them ants after one time when my little sister thought there were ants on her cupcake.

The drama of thunder and lightning.

When my husband used to shelter me from the cold by slipping me into his coat under his arm.

Reading funny cards together at the Hallmark store and laughing riotously til you're both in tears.

Sailing.

Finding treasure in your old house that someone from the past hoped you'd one day find.

Toys in your backyard...especially when you thought you'd never have them.

A spring-cleaned home.

(That's hilarious, Judith! Your poor sister... When I was a kid, my cousins told me pepper was ground up ants. I couldnt touch the stuff for YEARS! Lol. Kids!!!)

Hugs,

Nini
