We had sew much fun with the first SCRAP HAPPY -- let's do it again for spring. Dig into those scrap baskets or drawers of collage papers or ??? and make something adorable for your partner. What you ask? Well, how about a pot holder, a set of scrappy quilt blocks, use your scraps to decoupage a can or jar to hold stuff, book marks, a tiny doll and dress, a mini-quilt, coasters, a pieced journal cover, a fabric postcard, little fabric folded flowers. Use paper scrap or ephemeras as collage, origami, or tea bag folding projects, or pieces in a paper art project. Make something from scrappy yo-yo’s . . . need I go on? You get the idea. Check out the wonderful pictures on the first SCRAP HAPPY swap page.

OK, so here’s the deal. Please don’t sign up if you can’t follow through. I want each of the swapper partners to be SCRAP HAPPY too.
1. Sign up by March 15
2. Partners posted March 16
3. Contact your partner by private email for addresses
4. Just like your taxes mail no later than April 15
5. Tucks optional . . . Not purchased – “make do” from your crafty stash

SCRAP HAPPY SPRING -- CHALLENGE --
Last time I challenged you to make yourself or someone special in your life something too. This time the challenge is to post a picture of your scrap basket (drawer, tote, bin, whatever) and tell us about how you store your scraps. Can't wait to see those pix.

Happy Scrapping,
jean

I have a friend, Christine Richards, who has a delightful website. Today, I received the following email from her. It seemed so perfect for kicking off the next round of SCRAP HAPPY. So, I asked her permission to reprint it here along with the link to her website. Please visit her – you won’t be sorry. https://composition1206.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=4491b66986ebe9a81ba6a3dab&id=075d736ac7&e=6510fe1d31

“All I had was a pile of scraps. For the last week or so I've been making small floral collages. I was pleased with the results, but was getting frustrated with the process. To find the colors I wanted, I had to sift through a growing pile of scraps. It became more and more difficult to find that square of blue I was looking for, the strip of green that I needed, or that chunk of pink for just one more flower petal. I'd had enough.

Time to start fresh. To paint new sheets.

But before I tossed the scraps, I decided to make one more collage. Scissors in hand, I sat at my desk ... with no idea what to make. For a minute I sat willing, hoping, for wild inspiration to take over and guide me. But that didn't happen.

Of course not.

When I'm not sure what to do, I know the only way to get the answers I need is to start. Somewhere ... anywhere.

The only thing I could think of was an envelope. The familiar shape of an envelope ... easy to configure and not too taxing to start with.

And that's where I found my way ... an envelope made from scraps. Like a quilt. At first the bright colors were reminiscent of stained glass. But then, in the white space between the shapes, I saw roads.

The more I worked, the more I saw, and the more I enjoyed the process. When it was done, I wanted to add something to the white space surrounding the envelope and decided to add lines. No real plan for the lines, but now I see they are the maze to nowhere. The twisting, turning path we navigate before starting.

If, like me, you find yourself stuck on something, just start. Pick up your pen or pencil and write about what you're trying to do. Grab the scissors, the hammer ... or whatever tools you work with. Organize them, clean them, use them. That act of doing and being with your ideas and tools will help. After all, we can only get to where we want to go ... by starting.

Here's my last floral collage from the scraps. I did find that chunk of pink ... and it was just what I needed.”

Hi Jean, I would love to join this time around... trying to get back into the swing of things!
My phone isn't working properly so unable to post any pictures of my scrap basket... although my scraps seem to occupy my whole office space these days.

Well, we're off to a good start with Happy Scrappers April, Natalie, Heather and Linda.

In case you didn't catch this article in MaryJane's Farm Feb/Mar issue, be sure to check out "Stitchin up Scrappy Spring" on pgs. 80/81. I'm gonna check out each and every one of those tutorials. Can you imagine how cute it would be to walk your dog and have your shoe laces match his leash ?? I love it.

Happy Scrappin'

Hahahahaha . . . well, that's just the small pieces. Then there are the color separated 12x12 boxes for miscellaneous pieces the next size up. Then there are the specially built fat quarter holders floor to door top. All that is finished off with large color coded totes Home Depot industrial size for the yardage stash -- not to mention a stack of bolts mostly for solids that I use often. Do I have a stash? You betchum Red Ryder. Whatcha need? Just ask me. I probably have it. LOL
