I have been preparing my own mint teas for years... Mostly Chocolate mint as well as combining Choco mint with lavender buds... But this year I planted Strawberry mint for the 1st time... I haven't any idea how flavorful it will be... I have to wait till we get out of the 100' degrees weather then I will steep a small pot.. and if it is to my liking then I will dry enough to get me through the Winter.
Anyone else make their own teas?

Grace, mostly I like to use my dried herbs to flavor black tea either hot or iced. Chocolate mint is good in black tea or coffee. Two of my container yellow roses have rose hips so when they are ripe I will harvest them for tea.

Grace I leave the leaves whole. Don't remember if I read it somewhere or if it just makes sense to me that the oils will stay fresher longer if leaves are left whole. When ready to use I rub the leaves between my hands so the heat of my hands will help to release the oils. Remember to harvest your herbs in the morning after dew has dried. The oils are at their highest in the mornings.

Grace - Your mint tea would be perfect for the hot weather. I usually just make up a few mugs of hot tea, pour them into a jug, then let it cool down before refrigerating it and serving it cold. Cold mint tea is delicious & so refreshing!!

Bakers seeds has so many varieties I'll check with them. Sounds so so good! My chocolate mint has gone crazy here in the heat and humidity!!

I have always bought mint starts,, same with lavender,, but this year my lavender plants have self sowed like crazy,, I will try to uproot and pot the seedlings to transplant next year and maybe use as gifts...
As for the mint and lavender seeds..... I have not had much luck,, so I just cut to the chase and buy starts.. call me lazy... lol!
But I think I will try to harvest the strawberry mint seeds,, for next year,, who knows, maybe I will get lucky...

Grace, I would love to know what you think of the strawberry mint tea. It sounds very good. And I would be interested in growing my own.

I agree with Cindy - mint tea is great out of the fridge on a hot day!! I've never tried the strawberry mint. I did like the pineapple mint I tried a few years ago. I'm not sure what kind of mint I have now. It wasn't supposed to jump out of the pot but boy it did!!!! (Be certain you want mint where you put it if you've never grown it before LOL!!!) I love your labels on your jars. Mine gets put in the freezer to make sure it stays dry. It gets very humid here and I'm afraid the jars wouldn't keep it from getting moldy.
