Oh Alee! I agree! I wish my handwriting was better. I love the cursive of old times and wish we spent more time at school perfecting it. Very little time was spent in my school working on handwriting. I should pratice more! :)

I really love to receive letters. My favorite letter-writer recently passed away and I miss her a lot. I was told by her daughter that she had few friends and that she really looked forward to my letters. I tried to write at least once a month even though she found it difficult to write back. I treasure those letters. She also made all her Christmas cards and I have saved them all. Some are hand painted and some used dried flowers and some photographs.

One letter that I think is very important is the "Thank You" letter. I recently sent my grandson a huge amount of money for his high school graduation and have yet to learn if he received it. My two sons know the importance of writing their thankyous.

Letters are great! I started a monthly letter. I type because I send it to all the relatives and past friends, but most still love it. I add personnel notes here and there. I get mail in return and that is the best part. One friend sent letters from Alaska and I spent so much time laughing at his exploits. The feel of paper is such a strong part of the connection with that other person. SInce mostly what we get in the mail is bills it is so nice to have that personnel touch. I can't even put it into words. i love mail!! Laurie

Hi Ladies,
I am so glad to find women who feel as I do about the dying art of the written letter. I have a sister-in-law living in Japan (for the next 2 years) and have written her but I have yet to receive anything but a few short e-mails, of course this is the same person to which I pains takenly wrapped a Christmas present with the most beautiful paper and wired ribbon and immediatly upon opening the present she tossed paper and ribbon in the trash, ouch! waste not want not. I would love to be pen pals with you all out there.

My handwriting is terrible, so I resort to my Word Processing program. I think better at the keyboard and have much more to say than when I have to concentrate on my writing. As I have gotten older, I start leaving out words and misspelling words. Then I also have difficulty with my punctuation. It works so much better at the keyboard. I hope I don't offend anyone, but I do love receiving letters and I don't mind if they are typed or printed or handwritten.

i saw myself in several posts, i love to write letters and to get them. i love to have them to look at again and again,it's just not the same to print out an e-mail. it's the memories of a loved ones handwriting and reading betweeen the lines. a "real" letter blesses you more than once and it says i took the time and thought about you as i wrote. debbie

Writing letters is by far better than any email I have ever written or received. They are so much more personal and special! I'm excited for the mailart list and my new penpal! I actually wrote some postcards to my special people while I was in Mexico this summer!

'This is not a letter but my arms around you for a brief moment.'
- Katherine Mansfield

Yes, I write letters. I once was a prolific letter writer (pre-email), writing my Mother about once a week as well as frequent letters to my sister and dear friends. Now I have a friend in San Diego, CA (I'm in GA) with whom I exchange letters and a circle journal. We bought a spiral-bound book with blank pages, 'scrapbook' a few pages with images and thoughts, send to the other one who adds pages and sends it back. In our letters, we tuck in quotations folded and sealed with pretty stickers, charming pictures found and clipped, photos of our home interior and yard so we can 'see' each other's daily surroundings. And, I'll admit it here ... we make up cute, funny names of endearment for each other that change with the wind and add a sweetness to our correspondence. We also write e-mails: replying by responding in different color fonts until there are no more colors and it gets too confusing to read! (LOL)

Having been without internet for a whole week was great for my letter writing- a big stack sits here and I actually wrote real letters to friends who usually get emails- but it will be a nice change. I love getting letters with a little something tucked inside like a teabag and such- I love the little ritual of making a nice hot drink, snuggling on the sofa and reading away. SOmetimes I save a letter and take it to work to have a special break. :)

Before e mail I kept in touch with several friends and family by letter writing. I enjoyed picking out the paper, adding extras as decoration. Expressing my self. Reading about everyone writing makes me miss the simplicity of writing a letter and putting my heart into it. My husband and I are often like ships that pass in the night and we are always writing notes to each other but not the same as a mailed letter from a friend or family. May have to get the stationary out.

I LOVE writing and receiving letters through snailmail!
I used to have a few penpals in the USA and GB etc, and I SO miss those letters coming through the mailbox. I loved to add small items, little snippets out of newspapers (IF they understood Dutch ofcourse) and just little things like bookmarks , pictures etc.

Would LOVE to have real penpal again, but guess now with email......
What I receive in my mailbox now, is mostly junk hehe

I love to write (and receive) letters! I have had penpals since about the age of 9 and I still write to one that I started writing about 15 years ago.
I have a stationery addiction as well! I love to go through my cards and paper and choose the one that fits my mood that day. I love to receive a handwritten note that I can hold in my hand and read and re-read. I also am big on thank you notes and get tired of sending cards or gifts to neices when we never hear a peep about whether they received it or not. Birthday cards and anniversary cards are a must for me as well!

I can honestly say that I do write letters. I write to my sister that is in Alabama. I know that in this day of technology, most people just don't write letters anymore. To me, there is something so special and personal about writing a letter. I text my sister sometimes and we call each other once in a while, but she sure does enjoy getting a little something in the mailbox. It makes her feel special. That makes me feel good.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE to hand write and receive hand written letters! I'm in love with the art of letter writing! The relaxation and connectedness it brings! The love and time it takes! Finding a hand written letter in your mail box is such a special treat and I practically run home every time, find a quiet place to sit somewhere in my yard weather permitting and indulge in every read word from the content of the letter to the ink and the personality of the hand writing itself, then I always find myself re reading those precious letters, often times 3 or 4 times before I find myself responding back. There is something so very special about the hand written letter, even more so in this age of technology! Please, please, please do not let the art of a hand written letter fade! XO

Dianna, my sister lives in Owens Crossing Rds. They just moved there this year. They lived in Alabama years ago when my brother-in-law was stationed there. They fell in love with that state and decided to move back.
Loretta, I always write for my sister to write me back soon every time I write a letter to her.
April, it seems like so many people now days would rather text than write. I just think that writing brings that person closer to your heart. I just love penning out a letter to someone. I love getting handwritten letters in the mail in return. It is something that I have always enjoyed.

Couldn't agree more Lori, April and Winnie!
Lori I have to research that area. We were stationed near Ft. Rucker. They must have been stationed near Huntsville? If so I can see why they love that area! As for where I am, 'wiregrass/ middleground' it's not much to love. I enjoy going to visit north Alabama and Georgia often!!

Since I don't have anyone to write to these days, I journal a lot. Some of my most prized possessions are letters I keep from my Grandmothers and friends as well as my Uncle when he was in Desert Storm. They are a moment in thought and time. Precious!

Keep shining!

Love writing letters. I have quite a few penpals and do write to some members of my family. I still write and receive letters from my aunt who turned 99 in September. We have been writing ever since I married and moved away so for almost 38 years.

Yes---I do love to write letters and I still have a high school friend who writes. She does not want me to visit or call or email ---we just write letters as we did over summer vacation in school years ago. She always was secretive and weird---maybe I am too as I have always been a loner. Happiest by myself and with my hubbie and precious animals. It is also nice to get letters from Marlene Burns and post cards from Red Tractor Girl and sometimes my cousin and I write short letters----even though she only lives five miles away. But mostly no one writes or even sends cards anymore and I think that is so sad.

Dianna, Chuck was stationed at Ft. Rucker, too. He was in the Army. They loved traveling around. I don't know why they chose the area they did, but they love it there. My sister has always talked about moving back there. She loves the warmer states and hates the Ohio winter weather.
I have also had penpals all of my life.
Barbara, it is sad that most people don't write letters anymore. They always want to text or whatever else they do. I guess I am kind of a loner too as I love being with my DH and our furbabies.
Natalie, I have thought about keeping a journal. It would be a good way to keep my thoughts collected. Goodness knows I need help in that area. LOL
Denice.I think it is wonderful that you write to your aunt. You will treasure the letters from her when she is gone. I'm sure the letters from you are a bright spot to her life.
