I have been working on my UFO's (Unfinished Objects) badge. I have a few weeks off work over Christmas, so thought it would be a good time to work on them. My first project was to finish a garden seat that I had been working on. It was an old stool that had been sitting around with no use. It needed a bit of love (and a splash of colour), so I painted it and finally finished the clear varnish this week. It is now ready to sit in my garden and I'm sure it will get well used out there!

I wasn't sure where to post this as I am applying for Expert level of my Secret Life of Bees badge. I figured here was as good of a spot as any...This summer I collected and processed our very first harvest of honey from our own hives!!! I shared some with my coworker/friend who helped us out. It was a learning experience for her too. I'm going into my 3rd year of beekeeping and she's going into her second. Before harvesting from my own hives, I helped with the harvesting of the honey from our local beekeeper's association apiary in order to learn how it's done. We collected about 30 bottles of honey from 2 hives.

Krista your Bear is wonderful and I love your finishing! I love cross-stitching but it is a struggle for me because I have a difficult time counting, LoL
I know that your mom is thrilled. And your dad, oh my goodness what a beautiful picture! You did spectacularly.

I need help. I want to start my first merit badge and need to ask a question. I am going to do the Homespun Christmas, something I have wanted to for several years. Do I just jump in and work on it or do I apply to start the process?

Kathy, YES!!! Just jump into it! Keep track of the date that you start and when you finish. You'll need that for when you apply for your badge when you are finished. I loved doing the Homespun badge...I know you are going to have fun doing it! It took me all year but it was such a rewarding feeling!

Waking up to this morning's news gave extra meaning to your project Hilary, as those of us who have been staying home struggle to understand why so many aren't.

"The U.S. set two more devastating Covid-19 records as it counted down the hours to the end of what has been a calamitous year for the nation.

On Tuesday, it recorded more than 3,700 new deaths linked to the virus, a chilling new high. The US also reported the most Covid-19 hospitalizations, with more than 124,600 patients nationwide, according to the COVID Tracking Project. On a state level, Texas officials reported record-high hospitalizations Tuesday, with more than 11,700 Covid-19 patients across the state while Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said a temporary hospital with an additional 60 beds could open within the next few days. In Los Angeles County, hospitalizations are at an all-time high and nearing 7,200, almost 1,000% up from just two months ago. With the surge in patients, some hospitals are running out of oxygen tanks.

"I actually think we're now beyond waves or surges and this is a viral tsunami that we are now experiencing," epidemiologist Dr. Robert Kim-Farley said.

And experts have warned the US could see even worse Covid-19 numbers in January, fueled by this month's holiday gatherings and travel. On Monday alone, more than 1.1 million people passed through airport security checkpoints across the country, the Transportation Security Administration said. "The next couple of months are going to be awful," said Dr. Jonathan Reiner, professor of medicine at George Washington University. "We're going to lose 3,000, maybe more people a day, probably until we're well into February. And then, we should start to see some light."

And while the ongoing vaccinations continue to offer hope, the process is taking longer than many health officials hoped, and it will likely be months before the country will begin to see a meaningful impact, experts said."

That is terrible :( although here in the UK we now have a new strain to add to the horror (and yes people seem to think they are immune/the rules don't apply to them )

Thank you Cathy, Hilary, and Sara! It’s been a blast.

Hilary, your cross stitching turned out really nice.

Kathy, yes jump right on in. You only apply once you have completed the requirements for each level! Good luck with you new badge and have fun!

MaryJane, this just breaks my heart. My family has chosen to stay home as much as possible and wear our mask whenever out of the home. It breaks my heart to see these numbers. Especially the idea of losing 3,000 plus people a day. I truly hope for a better outcome.

Hillary, Lol, IN TOTAL agreement! Many of these young adult alabamians and teens think they are safe and run all through the stores with no masks. I wear mine, better safe than sorry. I dont want it and I dint WANT to give it to anyone else!

I agree Sara. I want to get a game plan and see how many badges I think I can complete this year. I hoping this will be my best Badge year! Did you see the new badges for this year? I love the macrame one!

Great plans Sara and Krista. I hadn't looked yet, but have plans to make macrame hangers for a couple of glass floats that I have. I even have the yarn necessary. I should get back to badge earning as well. I'm trying to get my life a little more scheduled to make my days more productive and want to have some time to try new things. I think I did macrame in grade 8 art, but not since. My daughter has been selling plant hangers on Etsy and she has some books, so this would be a great first badge for 2021!
