Funny how things happen sometimes . . . I think serendipitous is a good word for it. I've been working on "Gal-entines". I actually got done with the planned ones and was working on a couple of extras when my embroidery machine decided to get temperamental with me. So I quit for the day yesterday in frustration. While ruminating by the fire last night with a favorite cocktail, I got to thinking about the imminent projects I had coming up. First I have to get my Cabin Fever Reliever box ready to mail out -- everything is done, it just needs to be packaged up. Conversational Hearts swap -- done, just waiting to see who my partner is. And lastly, FEEDSACKS 2022. Well whoever needs to sew Depression Era feedsacks on fancy 21st century embroidery machines? Time to pull out my Featherweight and get authentic here. So long story short . . . not a major problem, just an opportunity to get "real" here. After all . . .
Use it up
Wear it out
Make it do
Do without

I'm working on one item from the Feed Sack fabric; I found a neat new pattern to use. And then will make another item. I sew almost all the time on 1 of my 2 featherweight machines, so I am in sync for the feed sacks. WOO HOO!

I know what I'm making for the conversation heart swap - just need to finish it. Won't take too long. Just need to see who my partner will be.

Making a potholder for the Jubilee potholder event/swap/gift. LOL!

Well, it seems there are always complaints about the poor postal service these days. Sew I wanted to give them some Kudos for a job well done. First batch of seven feedsacks were mailed out last Tuesday from my little taco truck post office in frozen north Idaho. All seven have arrived safely. The second batch of five was mailed on Friday AND drum roll please, the two going to Washington state next door were delivered the very next day on Saturday. Now mind you all these were sent ground with tracking not Priority. Good job post office!

My fabric arrived yesterday and it is so cute! I have spent a few moments here looking through all these wonderful comments and references and enjoying them a great deal. The past few years, I have been reading about the Great Depression years because my Mom lived through them and married my Dad in 1938 and they started a family. Because I arrived the last of the group, all those hard years were getting better after WWII. I am fascinated by what everyone endured and how resilient and resourceful people had to be. We have not experienced something this devastating in my generation. My Mom was Queen of thrift and she made the most of any and everything she had whether it was sewing clothes for her children or feeding a growing family through hard times and rations during the war.

I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with again this year. Last year was amazing and fun!

Thanks for joining us Tina. Your feedsack will go in the mail first thing next week.

BTW farmgirls I just finished another good Depression Era book -- "Sold on Monday". What a heart wrenching story. Did you know that some folks got so beaten down that they sold their kids during that time? I had not been aware of that and was riveted to this book. The storyline is fiction but based on real happenings of the time.

I had heard about people selling their children. So very sad.

Jean, I watch a special missions show every Saturday afternoon called Child Impact. They work to help rescue babies and children in India. A parent will die from an illness, mostly the men as they are the main providers, and the mothers will sell their children into the market for sex slaves or for human trafficking. I don't know why I watch it because it rips my every fiber out of my being but i do just to see how 'child impact' has helped so many. I guess in desperate times parents do desperate things. Sad, sad, tragic. Looking forward to the swap. Thank you again xo

Hi girls - I have been following this topic and anxious to join in but not quite time yet. I had my final chemo treatment of 12 on January 3rd and now scheduled for surgery on February 10th. Doing well and prognosis is very good but neuropathy is still bad in hands and feet, crafting is difficult. I think of this group so often, blessings to all.
