LOL-thanks for that comment, Christine. It is such a treat to paddle with my sis (one of them). She introduced me to paddling and we used to paddle almost every day on the ocean, when I lived off of Vancouver Island, up until last year. She is the true racer and trains hard. I get to tag along and enjoy the scenery, spend time with her and the wonderful community of paddlers. I am now trying to convince my other sis (who lives a half hour away) to kayak and then we can "Watersport" together.

Oh Debbie, that’s just like another prescription to help you. Your rite of passage.

Rockstar parking! What an unexpected birthday present. I suppose your doc was working with the materials they had on hand...

Jeanette - What a wonderful view of the rockies. I thinks it's fantastic that you join the races for the fun of it. When I ran my one and only (so far) marathon years ago an older gentleman came up to me and another girl when we were discussing our goal pace and said "the medals all look the same unless you win the whole thing, so don't forget to have fun and enjoy the race!" We were both running our first marathon and didn't know each other so it was really just our way of making small talk, but it really hit me what he said. So even when I had to walk for a bit due to some leg pain and just plain tiredness I remembered what he said and reminded myself that I was way ahead of everyone who never even started! All these years later I don't care that I was slower than I wanted to be during the race but I'm so happy that I finished it! I can only imagine all the wonderful adventures you've had with your amazing attitude :) Good luck getting your other sister to join you in kayaking.

Debbie - Blessings come in all shapes and sizes lol!

Debbie,
It is all about the "path", isn't it? I did a marathon in 2020 and I can feel all that you speak of! All I cared about was finishing, the medal, not being swept by the balloon ladies(if they passed you, you were out)! To this day, every time I see a balloon, I want to run, so that the balloon ladies won't pas me! The cool thing about being slower than you wanted to be is that you can train and do it again LOL. It was a once and DONE thing for me! I love the sharing of that special man's words. I will be thinking of that often. You're right, when you look at that medal, you see and feel accomplishment....not slower than you wanted to be and possibly not the pain involved. I do remember the tears when I crossed the finish line! Where did you do your marathon?

I ran the Fargo, ND marathon in 2010. Someday I'd like to do another, but I just don't have the time to train that much right now. I'm having a hard enough time fitting in a run to the woods and back (maybe a mile, maybe not quite) with all the work going on!

Heather,
Good for you! That must have been quite "hilly" in ND. I did Disney runs for a while and thenCovid changed things. It was a way to also see our daughter and her family in FL :0). I do want to get back into it-I still would like my Coast-to-Coast medal (two half marathons in one year; one at Disneyland and one at DisneyWorld) and my Castle to Chateau medal( two halfs in one year; one in North America and one in Paris). I like the 5's, 10's and halfs (haves?). I did the Dopey Challenge, which was the 5, 10, half and full marathon in 4 consecutive days. That was my final running races. Maybe that's why I am never going to do another marathon. I was DONE. LOL. I admire you for doing the trail runs! I would break an ankle! For now, I paddle.

I had no idea Disney hosted so many runs. I am secretly relieved Disneyland (up the road from us) is sold out on their next two events; more time to train! Let me know if you ever swing by my area chasing your Coast-to-Coast achievement, maybe they will still let us in to shake a sign and cheer you on.

Christine,
You can still run the sold-out events, by joining one of the charities groups. You usually have to fundraise a fair amount in order to run with them but I ran with Ronald McDonald House one year and met amazing people, receive an incredible goodie bag and they provided a shirt, snacks and another medal.....it was really worth it :0). Once you run, you are addicted-smart to be careful! I will let you know if I am in your area! It would be fun to meet you!

Jeanette - That's amazing! I got an extra medal for running the 5k the night before the marathon but I could not imagine doing the Dopey challenge!!! Way to go!!! Oh, and no - Fargo was all through town and not hilly (luckily!)

Chris - I can't wait to hear how your tri goes! I hope you have a wonderful time.

Thank you, Heather! I hope it goes smoothly! It looks like the forecasted high is 80 and I was sweating it would be in the 90's like the last couple years.

Enjoy all that come with the tri! There is an absolute "high" that comes from accomplishing a finish line! I am there on the sidelines, cheering you on!

Thank you both! I'll be picturing your "signs" as I make my way around the Willamette (rhymes with "g-d $@mn it," I learned at the race briefing today, but hopefully he doesn't before I have a chance to swim it).
