'Oh my,' Becky thought, as she saw the storm clouds rolling in outside the big farmhouse kitchen window. It had been a tough winter this year, snow storm after snowstorm...........

And now that spring is here, it looks like we may have a very stormy and rainy one. Becky sure didn't like the look of those clouds. Tom and Jeff were out looking for a cow due to calf anytime. Hopefully, Susan would make it home from softball practice before the storm hit. At least Darren and Kaylie were already home and had their chores finished. They were doing their homework at the kitchen table now. Maybe I should turn the radio on to listen to the weather.

'Oh my goodness' sighed Becky. The weather warnings were in effect. 'Well, it is time to get going and gather everyone up, just in case', Becky thought.

So she went into the living area and told Darron and Kaylie were playing a game on the floor. She told them to get prepared in case they would need to head for the cellar. So they scurryed around to make sure that the windows were all down and got their shoes on to head out if need be. Becky was standing at the window watching for Susan, she should be coming in the door soon.....

Oh, thank goodness, Susan just drove in just as it starts to rain. Hopefully, Tom is paying attention to the sky. Maybe, I should see if he has his phone on and is near it....

They must be too far out, to get a signal~~~She stood there pondering if she should just jump in the old truck and go check on them. Then all of a sudden a stong wind came up and the sky had this strange color of yellow to it. And out of the blue the hail began to fall........

"Mommie, Mommie, I'm scared," yelled Kaylie as she ran to Becky.
"It's okay, Kaylie. You guys go to the basement and play some games in the family room. Susan, you go with them and I will be down in a minute," responded Becky. Susan knew what to do. She had had to do this before. Becky prayed that Tom and Jeff had found some shelter somewhere. She couldn't leave Susan, Darren, and Kaylie by themselves. Luckily, we had an emergency kit already in the basement.

"Dad, over there's Bessy," yelled Jeff over the roar of the old truck.

"She's down! She must be having trouble," Tom replied. "You know, Jeff, I don't like the look of the clouds. It looks like it could hit any moment. You know, I don't think we can make it back to the house before it does. Unfortunately, the cow...............

Unfortunately, the cow was not down due to the impending birth but as they approached her on foot they could see that Bessy was hopelessly mired in a wallow of mud and tree branches. Tom and Jeff both stopped at the same time scratching their heads, and Jeff said "Dad this one is going to be tricky." As Tom turned and looked to the east he said, "Jeff you don't know the half of it"........

Tom saw the whipping tail of the tornado. It was a little distance away, could they possibly make it back to the house? Then he looked back and saw that it was lowering down to the ground. He looked at Jeff and told him, hit the ditch son, it's coming this way!!! Jeff was shocked at how fast it was appoaching and Tom had to grab him and ran .....

When Becky went down to the basement, Darren and Kaylie were playing a card game and Susan was working on her homework. Sitting down on the floor next to Darren and Kaylie, she noticed the Bible on the end table nearby. She decided some reading would help ease her nerves so she reached for the Bible. Putting it in her lap she turned to..................

one of her favorite scriptures in Romans, 'For I know that ALL things work together for good to those that love God, and are called according to His purpose'. As she watched everyone going about the things they needed to do, she could hear the roar of the wind outside. She began to pray and tried to remember more of the scriptures that may bring them all some comfort and less feelings of fear.

It seemed like hours but was really just a few minutes and all was clear. As she looked up at the window,The sky was a pretty blue again. Becky went back up to check on everything and went to tell the children......

'Oh my', Becky sighed. The outside had debris all over and the already barn roof looked a bit worse for wear. But all in all, it could have been worse. After a prayer of thanks to the Lord that family was all safe and sound, she knew hat cleaup work would need to begin....

Tom and Jeff had called as soon as they were in range and they had driven in as Becky looked at the barn. The tornado had taken a path about a mile east of them. There had been some stinging hail on their backs but they only had small bruises from it maybe. When the storm had passed, they had been able to get the cow out of the mud without any injuries as far as they could tell. They would check later and bring the stock trailer, in case, they needed to bring her closer in. They would need to access the damage and go over the books to see what they can afford to repair. Most important their lives had been spared and they were very thankful. Finances would be tight and they might have to take their time making repairs. But they would make it somehow if that was God's plans. Right now, they needed to check on the elderly couple down the road and then other friends and family. If they had time, they might even check on the church.

Becky was so thankful to the Lord that in spite of it all, their family was safe. She began to pray as she knew that Tom and Jeff would be checking in on others in the area. She could only hope that the Lord had kept others as safe. It would be a long, hard task ahead for the area, as everyone began to assess their damages, and begin the hard jobs of repairing and rebuilding.

She felt so thankful to live in an area where everyone took care of one another. It would no doubt be months ahead of many community projects together with her neighbors as they all work together and rebuild what the tornado tore down........
