Hello all,
Thank you so much for the warm welcome!
I live in a small town in western Colorado called Paonia, basically a poorly spelled latin peony, with my husband, Gary and a doggie girl and 3 parrots. Debbie has been to my home last year and met Fred, the African Grey with a 360 word vocabulary.

My birthday is July 10th, the day after Debbie's, and I turned 55 this year. I was named after an Italian grandmother, Serafina Rain Olympia Palmieri...not a child of the 60's!

We have a 14 acre organic farm, and are growing lots of different vegetables, flowers, gourmet and medicinal mushrooms. Right now we are in major canning season, lots of jars of tasty fruits and vegetables in all forms. I am working on planting my hoop house for fall crops.

I have been volunteering a bazillion hours to our local mosquito control district, working to eradicate W. Nile virus. Many, many hours, but very fulfilling as we just got word from the CDC that we have created the most successful turnaround in epidemic history.

I am a chiropractor and a naturopath by profession, and an artist by avocation. I have been very involved in all forms of textile art for many years and have spent the past year or so intensively studying photography, Photoshop, and digital art. I love to print my photos and digital collages, then add a lot of hand and machine stitch. Currently I am involved in an art journal online group, and have just started a weekly tutorial blog post called, "Art Travels with Rain" for Tangie Baxter's Art Journal Caravan. (tangiebaxter.com/blog) This last Wednesday I posted a tutorial on stitching on paper by machine, and making a book cover wrap. I love making books, sketchbook covers, just about anything I can draw or paint in.

We are expecting our first grandchild to be born sometime in the next 3 weeks...this is so very exciting, and amazing and overwhelming all at the same time. Our daughter lives on Oahu, and her husband is 5th generation Hawaiian, with a huge extended family. I just spent two weeks there giving her a shower (over 100 people!), cleaning their place from top to bottom, filling up the freezer, and generally doing A LOT of shopping. I have been sewing up a storm of crib sheets, receiving blankets, etc., as my frugal soul cannot believe the prices on Oahu.

I love historical novels, hand embroidery, the feel of handmade paper and ink, playing the mandolin, and the smell of freshly line dried laundry. I love living in the country, and feel so blessed to have this community, this family, this land.

I am so happy to join your henhouse, I was in a previous henhouse but dropped out for personal reasons. I love MJF and the spirit of connection based on shared values and friendship. Thank you for making room for one more!
Rain

Oh my Rain, all that you have done makes me tired just reading it. LOL! We used to live on Oahu many years ago. Always loved the Oleander blooming. Smelled so wonderful!

Congratulations on your upcoming grandparenthood! I have 5 littles so far and there is nothing like it. In fact, I have the youngest 2 of them and their parents visiting with us right now. They have been here for a week and will go home in a couple of days.
They sure are a lot of fun.

Wonderful that you are in the profession of Chiropractic care. I think everyone should definitely be using that part of the healthcare. I go at the least every month more often when necessary. I know from experience how much good it can do for the immune system. Wish more people would think of it in terms of preventive care.

So nice to have you here with us. We look forward to hearing your good news when the baby arrives!

hugs,
Denise~~

Welcome Rain! Your name is beautiful, what a blessing to be named after your Grandmother!
We live in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains, a lovely place to retire. We also love your part of the country :)!
Congratulations on your new little grandbaby :) there is nothing quite like them. Our grandkids are blessing us with great grandbabies now - don't know where the time goes. Enjoy every minute!
Hugs, Ruth

Congratulations to both you and Gary on your first grand baby, how excited you both must be. Rain we are happy you are in the HenHouse and we know you will enjoy being her. My "Chickees" are wonderful and all of us together make a great HenHouse, our values and respect for one another is to me what makes it work.
Thank you so much for sharing a little bit about yourself and family.
Let us know when the new grandbaby arrives.
I will be sending more SPG information Monday after our big Firehouse Garage Sale.
Have a beautiful weekend My Chickees.
Hugs,
DEbbie
