Hello everyone,

How are you all doing? Is everyone affected from the extreme weather?

Sherry, how are you doing? Are you all right?

How is the weather in your neck of the woods? Here there's a chill in the air? We seem to be going from hot to cold. Yesterday was in the 80's today in the 50's.

Last Tuesday Pumpkin and I drove into the city (Montreal) and spent the day walking around. It was a gorgeous day. Gosh there are a lot of people in the city! lol I found downtown Montreal had changed since the last time I was there (last year). They closed off St Catherine St (main down town street) from Bleury to St Laurent and created a make shift park for the summer. You could play street chess!

Afterwards we headed over to my mum's for dinner. The traffic was horrible. Amazing how you loose your patience for traffic when you live out in the country. We're talking bumper to bumper for 2 hours! Not sure I could commute to Montreal every morning now that I am used to a 5 min ride to work!

So what have you been up to? Any big events going on this month that you would like to share with your fellow sisters?

Enjoy your day everyone! Cheers!

Hi Carole,
It sounds like you were enjoying your trip and I agree living a small community makes you really not like traffic.
Eureka has one little area that gets bad and I hate it.

I like living in rural areas.
That street chess sounds fun though and maybe they could do checkers or something else. How fun!

We are supposed to get some rain but we shall see, it looked like it is coming in and it feels like it with the coolness, but we shall see!
The weather bureau said we could be in for a big year because of El Nino, time will tell. I hope it isn't like that.

Today I went to church and it was a really nice service. Then I went and helped hang clothes in our clothes closet and found myself a really nice pink Hoodie.

I went to my work and finished up there after I had gone to town and got cat food then came home and the neighbor came over and gave me some watermelon, really juicy,

When is a good time to get a good seedless flavorful watermelon, They are juicy but not very sweet.

It was good though and very nice of my neighbor.

I also found a lead crystal lamp at the clothes closet but not sure where I am going to put it yet. It is about 2and 1/2 feet with shade. It is pretty, I will have to take a picture of it.

Well have a good evening.

Love you all
hugs

Darlene, I also think checker's would be cool too! Please do not give up on the rain. You guys really need it, well we all need it as many of our fruits and vegetable comes from CA. We have had lots of rain here. A blessing given that we had so little snow in the winter.

Sounds like that church closet is magical! lol A pink hoody! Sweet!

I'm not sure when a good time for watermelons would be. In the good old days, it used to be that each fruit had its seasons, but now with transportation from all over the world, you can get strawberries in the dead of winter! To everything there is a season .... my favourite!

Cheers!

Carole I do not "do" city traffic well so you are much braver than I to deal with it. For that matter even small town traffic drives me crazy at times. Of course I am sure if most people came up behind me on one of our dirt roads as I was moving a tractor at 15 mph or slower they would complain too, so we are even. Managed to get every bedding plant in today and I am officially done planting the garden. Most things are up already. I covered everything the other night, it got down to 34 so it might have been OK. So today I had to wash all the towels, blankets, sheets and rugs I used. The dryer has been going non stop. I am hoping our weather warms up soon to more seasonable temps. Darlene it sounds like you had a very busy day as well. Have a wonderful evening everyone.

I am on orders from my chiropractor to take it easy for a few days. Not something I do well. So today, I read a bit, crocheted a bit, 3 loads of laundry and even ironed (yes Sherry, I really did). Tonight will be a movie, although not sure which one. I have to leave at 6 in the morning for a funeral 4 hours away so I know it will be an early night. Hope everyone had a great day.

Julie, please take care of yourself anyway. You're the only one that can.
I love the discussion about city traffic. I live in a large metro area, two cities, Minneapolis and St. Paul. Our freeways are suffering because they just weren't made for so much traffic. I hate it too but an used to managing it. Luckily my yard is full of beautiful things, green, lush, plants, bonsai, koi pond, shrubs and trees. My side yard where the barn is has veggies, wildflowers and perennials. I don't have to look out on the traffic. Even on the front porch we have bushes covering the street. I feel blessed. I love the country but we had to live where my husband taught school. I'll try to send a picture of my barn. I am the grey haired one. farm.

Bonnie - lovely picture!!!

Julie - oh please please please take care of your back!

Oh how I hate traffic! I try to avoid the higher traffic times here around Charleston! Today I actually went in an hour later than I wanted to do my glucose test, so that I could avoid the traffic! It was the three hour test, which meant I wasn't done until around 1230.... I fasted from 6:30 last night until after 1230 this afternoon - that is a long period of time when you are pregnant!

Julie, please take care of yourself! Glad you are taking time to rest!

Bonnie, what a lovely picture! Love the quilt block on the barn! That looks like the Corn & Bean block! I made a quilt using that block - queen size!!!!! There were over 2,500 pieces in that quilt! But, whose counting! lol Would enjoy seeing more picture of your yard. It sounds lovely! Thank you for sharing!

Oh dear Shannon! Anything and everything is long when you're pregnant! lol Hope you were able to grab a bite quickly after the tests.

I can usually avoid the highway and bad traffic by going on the back roads. When I am forced to be in traffic, though, I do ok. But it doesn't bring out my finest nature, I must admit! :)

Julie, I feel your pain, literally! Apparently I have a herniated disc and am having physical therapy. It's really slowing me down (the disc, not the therapy!) Bonnie, your yard is so pretty, more pictures, please. It's inspiring to see such a lovely green spot! By the way, I love your name - my daughter's named Bonnie. Shannon, I've been following your story on Hogs and Quiches thread, and have been keeping you in my prayers. Any news on moving?

Tomorrow I have to be at my daughter's at 6:00am to babysit. On Wednesdays I take my granddaughter to pick up our CSA shares and we visit all the animals. The chickens are her favorites. So, I'd better turn in. Good night all!

Happy Day!

Bonnie I love the picture. Shannon I 26 can be really rough in the Charleston area during rush hour. Getting stuck on one of those bridges is awful! Julie take care of your back! We have had some extreme weather today, hail. It is suppose rain all day tomorrow. Carole I love the giant chess set. I despise traffic. I wish I had a better attitude about it but I just don't cope well. Maryellen

Evening everyone. Texas is about to dry up a little. Yards are still a little soggy, the sun has been shining the last couple of days so things are looking up.
Hey everyone May was really busy and I am a little behind in getting our new ladies in our info sheets. When Julie and Carole let me know that we have all our new ladies, I will get their info out to everyone and all the new ladies will get everyone sheets. So I will be contacting you for a few things we need to know about you. I will be sending an email out to all the new ladies soon.
So new sheets will go out as soon as I get all the new info. Anyone that wants to update their info please let me know before Sunday. I will probably try and start printing on Monday and send out sometime next week. When I get all the info. Thanks everyone for your help with this.

Farmgirl Hugs & May all your Wishes come true.

Carole, I agree about the traffic. My dh, Matt grew up in the 3rd largest city in Indiana. He was born and lived there until he was 19. Then I managed to get him in the country! lol! Now he LOATHES the traffic and people in general.

Weather here has been very mild. Today was in the upper 60s all day. Normally it would be 75-85. It is nice, but I fear what it will do to the garden. Already local strawberries have suffered and I fear there will not be any strawberry jam this year. :(

Sherry, glad to read that Texas is drying up. You guys have been hit with a lot of water.

Temperature here is cold. It has not been the warmest spring. We seem to go from extreme to another. I'm back to my long sleeve shirts. We've had lots of rain, which is much needed. We had so little snow. Everything is green! It is beautiful.

My son lives in Austin, TX. and visited this weekend. He said they had three weeks of rain. I feel so bad for those affected by the floods and tornadoes. I am glad you are finally drying out a little. Hope you can avoid a drought this summer.
Carole, I made that block because that's some of what we grow in the garden, corn and beans. I just bet the quilt was beautiful.

Tonight I took the time to play with my little girls! For those who are new, I refer to my chickens as my "girls". I have big girls and little girls! A month ago we acquired some new chicks. The local feed store assured me they were Barred Rocks but I don't believe it! I have 3 Barred Rocks (Voldemort, Rosa Park and Doppler) and they do not look like these.

First one on the left is Sweet Pea, Second one is nameless for now and the last one is "Chicken" Cuz she's a big scaredy cat! lol Sweet Pea is brave, she's spunky! She loves to play, she's my favourite, but don't tell the others!

I find it so relaxing to just sit, and watch my little girls. It makes the stress melt away. Sometimes, I'll just sit outside and breath, that helps too!

What do you do to help you melt your stress away?

Darling little girls, Carole! I have been practicing Tai Chi for a couple of years now, and its great for stress. I don't have any chickens (yet) but I have kitty cats, and watching them stretch and yawn in the sun is very soothing. And when I'm really stressed, I pick up the nearest instrument and play, usually something new I want to learn, which totally changes my focus. I'm looking forward to hearing about everyone else's stress busters!

Happy Day!

What a cool picture Carole. They are darling. Thanks for the compliment on my barn quilt. Not far from me there a lot of barn quilts and one of the local quilt shop has done a bus tour and lunch while we visit and photograph them along to a trip to a local winery. I don't want to miss it. Maybe you could do that in your area?

I got a happy surprise package from Julie today! Thank you so much for the knitting supplies, you are really helping me stay motivated with your generous encouragement! I spent a lot of time knitting this evening, and its getting easier. Are there any other knitters in the henhouse?

Thanks everyone for you kind comments on my little girls.

Amy, I used to be an avid knitter in my 20s. Knitted many sweaters and what not. I recently picked it back up and now only knit socks! I do have wool to knit a shawl, but haven't gotten to it yet. I'm still stuck on socks! lol My main issue is that I learned to knit using French patterns. I am still not used to English patterns. I have a difficult time with the terms. Would love to see what you are working on!

Cheers!

Amy, I love to knit!! Here is my recent finished vest that I also posted over on the mail forum.

This pattern was from the Knit for Victory campaign for WWII and came from the Red Cross Archives. The pattern is really very simple with all rows just some form of knit and pearl. The best part is that the vest fits well and I love the colors of the yarn.
