I like the idea of RAOK but sometimes it poses conflicting feelings for me. Here's an example of what I mean. The other evening around 7pm a scruffy un-kept man knocked at my door. Through the door window I saw he had a push lawnmower with him. I have a lawn man who keeps my yard looking nice so he could tell it didn't need mowing. But I opened the door anyway with Annie by my side. She never moved from there.

He said "he hadn't eaten in two days". I told him I didn't need my lawn mowed but I could give him $5 - all the cash I had. I had to open the storm door to give it to him. After he left I question whether I should have even answered the door much less open the storm door. I think of a locked storm door as my last line of defense. I guess I am over cautious because of all my years of living alone.

I agree, Sara. I tend to be overly cautious since I lived alone at that time, 2-1/2 miles from my small town, and in the county. The first night I stayed in this house the doorbell rang at midnight - I had just turned out the light after reading in bed. I went to the door and looking through the glass saw a man standing there. He was nicely dressed and probably in his 20-30s. I asked what he needed and he said he had car trouble on the road and needed to use a phone. I told him I was sorry, but I could not help him; he said no problem and turned and walked away. As nicely dressed as he was, I could not believe he didn't have a cell phone. Maybe I was wrong, but I wasn't going to let him in the house to use the phone. Afterwards I thought I could have made the call for him, but I guess I was so surprised and a bit scared by the ring of the doorbell that late at night that I didn't think of that. My neighbor lives halfway up the driveway, so he could have stopped at their house, too, and didn't.

It is better to err on the side of caution with all the things going on out there to catch unaware people. I would suggest calling and letting the police know some one is out there needing help next time. Be careful, there are some dangerous scams out there.
I love to help people but it is better to not open your door. get with a friend or family to let you call and let them know if something like that comes up again. They can check or call some one. Do you have a neighbor hood watch program? You can report after the fact on that and if you have their number you can call and let them know someone is knocking on doors.

Be Careful out there.

Love and Blessings.

No neighborhood watch here - we are outside city limits and I am on 12 acres, so neighbors not really close.

Almost finished my grocery shopping when I knew I was beginning to be off kilted. That's what I call the MS symptom of me looking ahead, thinking I am walking straight but am veering off to the left or right. Today I was veering left right into a display of peanut butter. Half the jars hit the floor - thank goodness they were plastic. A woman came up and helped me put the jars back.

I thanked her and she said "if you aren't helping ~ God's not watching, and I want his eyes on me" I now have a new saying and thankful for her help.

I made it home, got the cold stuff in the fridge, and will rest most of the day.

Do rest Sara. That is frightening. Does it affect your driving? Do you have to be extra careful?

It affects my driving if I'm very fatigued. Today I was doing okay until it happened so driving was no problem. I live three blocks from the store so that helped.

Connie, thank you so much for this ROAK, I love it. I am going to hang my towel right away and use the garland at work. The pumpkin soap is great.

Blessings, you made my day!
