| Now that the quilt show and DH's archery tournament are over it's time to get down to real work and build our catio. DH dug and pulled up privets and I worked on pulling up the jasmine that has taken over the yard and pruned roses. Not much has been done in the yard since my back injury about 10 years ago so it is a real jungle. I was so sore today that I could only work about an hour out there but I figure an hour a day will make more progress than not doing anything. The weather is good this week -- 81 today and about the same for the next three days. Good weather to be outside. |

Question...have you ever looked at the bottom of a brown paper bag??? I'm repackaging and sorting our garden seeds. My husband bought several things in bulk...meaning they went into brown paper bags. This morning I was attempting to organize the mess. When I was cutting the bags up I discovered that the bags were stamped on the bottom. "MADE WITH PRIDE BY"...and the initial as well as the last name of the person who made it. It made me stop and think that a human being thought that by giving those ladies and gentlemen a stamp with their name on it so they could mark their work...It gave them more...something called self worth and pride. I figure they earn minimum wage, but a smart person, made them feel important, and of course do a better job...because their name was on it. From now on I will look to see who made my bags. |

| Started on the craft/ guest bedroom yesterday. Planning to do more today. I need to move things from one bedroom to another so we can get the walls painted and the carpet replaced. Then I hope to be done and get everything in order. Cleaning out the craft room/area will help tremendously. I will be weeding out more of my craft supplies and things that I just don't use anymore. I feel like it is a hoarder area! |

Judith, I love your quilt! Marilyn, hope you are doing better by now! Quilts....some days I wonder if I have another one in me. And other days I'm so excited to start something new! I guess my kids can just take care of all of them when I am gone! I will just enjoy myself now! hahahaha |

| We grow mostly Kentucky bluegrass for seed, some wheat, rye and barley for malting. That is one of last year's grass fields in the background. |

So Debbie do you replant the grass seed each year or once the grass is established, you just feed it, the snow provides moisture, the sun and spring breezes help out, and soon the grass goes to seed and you harvest? I think you must plant wheat, barley, etc each year. |

| The grass fields stay in 5-7 years before they are torn out but the grain crops are planted each year. We're lucky to have everything under pivot irrigation. |

Coastal grass is what grows around here. There is a man, about thirty five miles from us who grows alfalfa. My son asked him how on earth he got it to grow. He said if you can get your soil amended correctly it will grow.He has done quite well with it. The other day I was trying to weed eat the grass around the faucet that I must turn on in order to fill the water trough below the barn, and also a wide path to walk over to it. Boy, that's when I learned how tough the stems can be. My weed eater did not think that was fun. |

I'm working on three fall mini pillows. 4" X 5" I am using orange plaids; stripes; solid with solid teal & a teal check wool for main colors. The sheep pattern is pinned to a cream colored wool. The pumpkin pattern is pinned on orange & teal wool awaiting cutting out. For the third I need to design a scarecrow and cut out the pattern. Each pillow will have a teal check star with a yellowish star button somewhere on the pillow. All pillows will have cream colored background.
I like my orange plaid sheep with teal head, legs, and tail. |

Debbie, love your new farm sign with Farmer Brad! Congratulations on getting your homestead properly identified on the road too.
Sara, your fall pillows sound pretty! I love the colors you are describing and the little designs. I love the idea of crows as that is a favorite of mine too. Now that I have a resident Crow family in my backyard, I am nuts about all things fall with crows!
