Happy Monday!
Just wanted to share something fun this morning. My sister and I took our family Christmas trees to a local farm yesterday and "donated" them to the chickens. What fun to watch the chickens quickly investigate the new additions to their yard. The farmer says the trees help block the wind as they decompose and will help create great compost in the chicken yard this spring.

In the fall we also donate our pumpkins to the farm. Our farmer says that her animals all appreciate the pumpkin treats. We have even got our neighbors putting their pumpkins out so the farmer can pick them up as they drive down the street.
Just made me happy so I thought I'd share.

| That's a wonderful way to recycle the trees and pumpkins! We used to give our chickens pumpkins in the fall but never though about the trees. Of course we have artificial now and no chickens here. At least until we move again. |

| I would never have thought of donating a Christmas tree to the chickens! Our cats love to investigate ours when we pull it out so I can imagine how much the chickens enjoyed it :) |

What a great story Laura, I too never thought about giving out Christmas tree or pumpkins to farmers. I will have to check into it. Thank you for sharing. |

My sister loves to decorate all fall with pumpkins - she picks up a new one almost every time she goes to the grocery store. I just couldn't imagine just throwing them in the trash so..... We asked at our local Farmer's Market and they shared the contact with us. It's a cute farm about 30 minutes from our house. She told me she has Monday set up as a day that you can just come hang out at the farm. I think I'll take her up on it!

| Wait for me Laura, I want to go with you. I would love to hang out on a farm to feed the animals and anything else I can do. Sounds like fun so let us know how it goes. |

| I just heard a commercial on our radio about donating the Christmas trees! How cool, I never would have though! |

Ill go too, Laura! How fun would that be? You could actually get a badge for helping her out too! :)
I take my pumpkins (and bug holed apples) to the crafting bed and breakfast where I go a couple times a year. I host a retreat in November so it's the perfect time to take them up. The deer, moose, turkeys, and other small critters enjoy the treats. And it's fun to sit and look out the window while crafting to see them come up and have a snack! :) |
