Of the year!

We woke to a dusting of snow. The weatherman tells us two inches by the end of today so not much but I love the way it looks!
I'm glad it happened before our trip south.

Wow! Cold!
We are getting ready for the river to flood!
I am in a pretty safe spot.
Stay warm!

The colder the better for me Darlene!
We will be south this week and I'm praying their temps drop.

I like the cold weather, too; so far we haven't gotten too cold. It will be in the 80s for a couple of days, then down to cooler again.

Enjoy your visit in the south.

Keep your feet dry Darlene! We've had a goodly amount of rain here too. I have to laugh at the media referring to it as a "cyclone bomb atmospheric river". It's a good old fashioned rainy day for pete's sake.

Darlene it's good to have you back :-)
I remember in 1986 wading in my house in thigh deep water for two days until the cats and I could get out. Cats can swim quite well.

Thanks Judith and Linda, I live right up in town so relatively safe. My friend lives down by the ocean and by the river. And has to cross the bridge to get up here.,
So I do worry for her.
But she did manage to get out when things were safer and got up her to get her mail and drop off the cord for me.
I keep having trouble with the ends of the wires breaking. I want to get extras.

I sure missed you all.
Well we still have wind and wetness here so will e glad when it’s over.
Hugs

Looks like you more northern states are getting a bit of pre-Christmas weather with the recent first snow that actually stuck to the ground. I always thought the first snowfall is the prettiest one just because it reminds one of the changes that come with the year long cycle around the sun that gives us these seasons we celebrate.

I love this painting of an old country store at Christmas. I wish there was still a store like this to visit!

Me too. Mostly I remember Mr. Hopkin's grocery store in Berkeley when I was young. Wood floors, wire carry baskets, and a hole with string coming out in the checkout counter to wrap things that needed wrapping. Almost every afternoon Mom would take off her apron, brush her hair, and we would walk the four blocks to get the needed items. We didn't have a freezer back then and Mom never did learn to drive.

'O Christmas Tree'

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree,
How lovely are your branches! (X2)
Not only green in summer’s heat,
But also winter’s snow and sleet.
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
How lovely are your branches!

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree,
Of all the trees most lovely; (X2)
Each year you bring to us delight
With brightly shining Christmas light!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree,
Of all the trees most lovely.

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree,
We learn from all your beauty; (X2)
We learn from all your beauty
Your bright green leaves with festive cheer,
Give hope and strength throughout the year.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas tree,
We learn from all your beauty.

- by German composer Ernst Anschütz, 1824. The original name of the song was ‘O Tannenbaum’, which means ‘O fir tree’ or O Christmas Tree in English

Illustration by Canadian artist Solange Pilote
