I just spent 4 hours in the woods - I guess I was celebrating Earth day LOL! I was collecting herbs, the woods are waking up!

The biggest thing I found is that my body is NOT in garden mode yet! My lower back and hamstrings were screaming at me to stop bending over so much LOL! There's a bunch of stuff growing that I don't know what it is or what it's used for. I keep saying I'm going to ID everything and just never have enough hours in the day. So, today I stuck to what I know. I grabbed some mullein because last year when I waited until fall it wasn't very good (bugs). I got some chickweed and purple dead nettle from the field before the alfalfa and clover take over, and I spent most of the time picking wild violets. I'm hoping to get down and pick some more of those in the next couple days. I need a bigger dehydrator and oven!

That sounds like so much fun, that’s also worthwhile. Heather, what will you make with the wild violets?

This batch I'm drying to save some for tea (it's good for a dry hacking cough) and then the rest for infused oil (it's good for helping to move lymph, such as when a cow has a swollen udder, and for dry itchy skin) that I'll add to other oils to make salves later. I'm hoping to get more to make some wild violet jelly - it kind of tastes like grape and my husband loves it.
