In February Wanda Sue sent me a flower calendar I've been waiting to plant. I found the perfect container and decided Saturday it was warm enough to put it in some dirt:

I covered it with dirt and watered it as per the instructions on the back. Then set it in the sun right outside my back door - by some of my herbs. I ran out of time so I got some other pots ready but not planted yet. Sunday morning this is what I found when I headed out to milk the cows:

That little white blob just above the dirt is the calendar page dug out. And here's the rest of the mess:

The little silver bucket had seeds from my nephew's wedding. The other pots were just filled with soil and not yet planted. I finished planting everything Sunday. Monday this is what I found:

I've been bringing the tea pot in at night (luckily the seeds are in the paper so they weren't lost in the yard!) but last night the pots on the front porch were dug through. I'm going to run out of seeds before anything even pops out of the dirt!!! I WILL figure out what dang blasted critter is trying to keep me from growing my flowers and herbs!!!

Wow Heather I am anxious to see what critter is out there. You know you can put a “Have a Heart” trap
Out to catch the critter, then you can release him somewhere else away from your garden. Just a thought.

Oh no Heather! I hope you catch that critter.

Debbie - I don't know if it's a "have a heart" trap but we have what I call the live trap, that will catch critters for us to take down to the woods and let them out. The only problem is that 99% of the time the critters it catches are the cats! They say curiosity killed the cat and I can see why they say it LOL! I'm guessing it's a raccoon that's been tearing things up. It could be a skunk, but we usually smell them if they're around and we haven't smelled anything. The good news is nothing's been dug up for 2 days now. I'm hoping they've discovered there's nothing in there for them and now they'll leave them alone. I'm going to replant tomorrow (as long as nothing is dug out tonight) and hope for the best. This will be the last of a few of my seeds so hopefully they get to grow.

Oh no, I was so curious what your calendar sprouted. Good luck with the critters!

Sorry Heather…I planted my April page too…still waiting for it to sprout. But we have to add small rocks to our pots so the cats don’t do their business in them.

Yes, Heather thats the same I am sure. In our neck of the woods of Colorado that is what our hardware stores called them. We have relocated many animals with them and they work great.
Funny story, in one of the little towns we lived in in Colorado we had a huge disruptive old squirrel who tore up all our plants, aggravated our dog just real obnoxious! So we got a “Have a Heart Trap” and trapped him. We rode a few miles down the road in a woody area and let him go, we thought he would be content and happy in his new location. I kid you not when we got back that darn squirrel was waiting for us on our front porch! Can you believe that? So, we decided to leave him be to live out his life, we caged our plants and kept the dog away from him. Years later when we moved that squirrel was still there, loving life and enjoying the peanuts we gave him daily! That is when we first heard of used the trap. I was a city girl and I did not know that’s what folks did.

A Farmgirl posted this cartoon on facebook this morning, thought you would find it funny too.

Have a great weekend Wildflowers.

I believe you about that crazy squirrel waiting for you when you got back! It's amazing how far critters can go and find their way back. My sister in law took a couple cats to her little farm and 17 days later one of them showed back up here. It even had to cross a 4 lane highway!!

Too bad you didn't have a trail cam set up to see what is coming in at night...but hopefully they have moved on! How frustrating!

I can only imagine what a camera would pick up! There are so many critters around here. I'm not sure I want to see them all - might make me too nervous to go out and check on mama cows having their babies in the middle of the night LOL! So far it seems they've decided my pots are not worth another dig. Hopefully it stays that way.

We are a squirrel and raccoon haven here on our little postage stamp size piece of land. The raccoon always seem to steal away any suet cakes they can find and the squirrels get to the apples before we do. I figure when we move back to the country there will be room for all of us out there. I hope! Love the cartoon Debbie. Lol!
