Thank-you, Debbie! That is my kind of Hallowe'en picture. So cute!

I'm not really into the horror type of stuff for Halloween but I love cute so please add me Debbie.

Two things I hated about Halloween as a child.
One we always had to wear a coat because it always seemed to be snowing. And two there was this one house where a widow lived and she went all out for the day. Nothing horrible but she had someone sit on her porch dressed up with a scary mask and in their lap was a bowl of candy. Of course she had all the eerie sounds going on, anyway when you went to reach for candy the person would grab your arm or something. Not usually with very little kids but as we got older. Also she lived right in front of the cemetery. Her grandson we found later was the dressed up figure. His younger brother now lives in the home and my grandparents, aunts and my parents and sister are in that celery. It is totally different to go to that area now. Very peaceful and I enjoy it but will never forget that.
Long winded sorry, but another story about a Halloween when I was about 10. My mom had an old dress, shoes, hat and glasses that her grandma wore. All black and she was 4'8" at that time so it almost fit. So I dressed up in that to trick or treat. My sister who was quite a bit older than me took me out. Now I did not want to go to that house so my sister told me that she would drive to my aunt's gas station she owned and all I had to do was sit in the driver's seat and when my aunt came out I had to tell her to fill it up. Neither of those choices appealed to me but since I didn't want to lose the hr of trick or treating by driving to my aunt's and back I chose the scary house. Facing my fears each year.

Lol at the widow's grabby grandson, Denise!

My mother in law comes to help pass out candy since we get hundreds of trick or treaters in an almost unbroken stream. This old Victorian house is so spooky, sometimes it takes all of a kid's courage just to go through the rickety gate and come up to the porch. Yet MIL is so insistent that every kid is *visible* to cars while they trick-or-treat. "Oh no, Honey, you can't just put it in your bucket, you need to wear it!" She is grabbing these poor littles to strap a glow stick bracelet on them, too. I would be terrified if I were them! But I guess it is better than a close call with a car!

I have you down Denise, thank you.
Love your stories Denise and Chris, I love them all.
Chris do you decorate your Victorian house outside very much? It would be an awesome house to decorate tastefully of course :-)

Big Hugs,
Debbie

Denise & Christine,
Thank-you for sharing. It gives insight to why some like more of “cute” than “scary” Hallowe’en. My story is too long but I think it boils down to odd creatures in the dark that want to do harm to others :0(

Debbie, we joke that it is always decorated for Halloween. Maybe I let a few of Wanda Sue's arachnid "architects" do some extra embellishing in October. Someday we dream about going all-out since it is our favorite holiday, but the fall is already so hectic it never seems to be the right year for it.
